I'm looking to purchase the Wolf Eyes Defender but want to ask this question before I choose which one. Is more lumens better to have? I ask this question because I saw the Wolf Eyes Defender comes in two flavors(at least flavors I'm interested in) 190 or 260 lumens. The specs for both light show identical runtimes.

190 lumen seems bright enough but would it more advantageous to have a even brighter light? What are the pros and cons of both outputs?

Also, if anybody reading this thread has both the Defender and the Sniper 6A, can you share your preference between the two?

Thanks in advance.

In general, it's better to have more lumens available. I don't always use max, because for close in work, and for certain dark situations, more lumens is not desirable.

It's better to have a light that is bright, but with variable output so you can adjust the output to your liking as the environment / situation changes.

These days, it's better to have a 190 HP car than a 260 HP. You'd save money on gas so you can buy more flashlights!!! :naughty:

The 190 lumen version uses a lower bin Cree XR-E then the 260 lumen version. The 260 version has a more efficient LED then the 190 lumen version.

I'd take the 260 lumen.

You probably won't see much difference between the two lights output wise but it's usually better to have more.

Bushido, the Defender and 6A are the same except for the bezel. The Defender has a crenulated bezel, the 6A a standard. I would buy whichever you prefer, or better still, the bezel is available as a spare part, buy one and the spare bezel for the other, that way you have the best of both worlds.

If you choose a multilevel light, just choose a lower level if you find the high level too bright. The difference is noticeable between the 190 and 260, but both are bright, it is more a case of bright and a bit brighter, not dim or bright. Good luck in your choices.

I'd buy the higher output model. Both use the same LED, just different bins, so they will have identical beam profiles.

However, also take into consideration that wolf eyes uses a percent of the maximum output for their low levels. That means that the 260lm version will have a brighter minimum level, which is bad for night vision.

Agreed...and also take into consideration that these latest LEDs driven hard enough (on max) using a filter...not only save night vision but provide more than enough light for most of your tasks, to boot.

Thus my opinion that brighter is always better (and that spare cells are a beautiful thing:) ); as you first inquired.

Sweet. Thanks for the info.

Glen C, sniper + bezel = Defender? are you just trying to get me to spend more money? (just kidding) Thanks for that info. I think that is the ticket, best of both worlds...I am assuming you're saying the Defender's bezel cannot be removed, right?
