Is Eagaletac P20A2 Mk II still a good buy in 2021

Hello people,

I need an AA-powered low to medium output light with a decent runtime . All my other lights are LiIon powered (18650 or 21700) and quite high output. I just saw that couple of vendors in my country still offer Eagletac P20A2 MkII. What do you think about the light today? I know it is close to ten years old model, but on paper at least, it still looks ok. What I like is the good runtime and the abundance of included accessories. Light output is not a priority here, I just need something with a decent build quality that would run on Eneloop AAs.

Thanx in advance.

Personally I like ET, but would only recommend them if you are looking for specific specs that they offer that other's don't. For example, I like having a flashlight with an always hi mode available where it takes a very deliberate interaction to access a different mode. I also like being able to access a lower mode from off and a forward clicky. Additionally, beam pattern plays a significant role in my decision and purpose for the light.

There are a number of ET 2xAA lights to choose from. I'm debating on getting either a Nitecore MT2a, or ET D25A2 Tactical model. However, of the 5 ET flashlights I have, the only ones I think are competitive with current competition are the ones in the Ti Clicky line. I have 3 (AA and CR123) and am considering getting a 4th (which would be my 3rd AA Ti Clicky)... although I am considering a 1xAA Zebralight too. If you like the side button, Fenix has a new 2xAA light that looks nice, and Armytek seems to have a good following along with spec'alicious 2xAA offerings.

I should mention that all of my main EDC lights, including flashlights that I use for work (property maintenance), are ET... not that I think they are better, but I've used them without issue, their specs meet my needs, the sizing of my models is often a tad smaller than competitors (easier to carry), and because they aren't as "fancy" I don't mind them getting dirty or banged up. I keep rotating other brands into the rotation, but 90% of the time I still grab an ET.

I'll add to that... right now my favorite multiple AA lights are from Coast, but the ones I like are all too big for carry... and I like the zoomable feature where many don't.

If the specs of the light meet what your needs are then what else would you want? I have the C2 version of that light and I still frequently grab it when I just need a light to see around the house. It's smaller size always made it easy to drop into a pocket while going out to check on whatever random thing I was needing to check on.

Thanks for the replies guys!
I've been looking around for other offerings, especially from Fenix, since I like their lights and have been using them for over ten years...
The closest to the P20A2 MkII appears to be the E20 and LD22. However they cost a bit more than the Egtac and don't come with many of the stuff included in the package of P20A2.
Looking at the specs, it looks like nothing revolutionary has happened in AA lights for the last 10 years. Comparing the light output and run times (on paper that is), they are very similar, so the P20A2 MkII doesn't look outdated.

It definitely holds up to the competition, honestly any 2aa flashlight between 250 and 500 lumens that's built tough is a keeper. Beam profile, tint and user interface are what usually decide the light for me. Eagletac usually has you covered with different tints and sometimes different emitter choices.

Maybe... IMO, AA lights have just switched to 3, 4, even 9 x AA rather than sticking with the 2xAA model. At that point, however, size, weight, capacity, higher end features, and often output tend to favor the Li rechargeable options.

Thanks once again for the input.

I ordered the light yesterday and got it today (local dealer 1 day shipment).
First impressions are quite positive. This is my first EgTac. Everything is nicely machined and the build quality is high. The control interface is getting some used to, but just using high and med power is very easy. Did a brief check on runtime with a set of Eneloops. I got close to 90 min on max power total (turning the light on and off periodically) before it switched permanently to medium output. Not bad at all. The package is very nice, plenty of stuff included. All in all, not a bad light.
