Is it safe to run 2x cr123 with an 8x 7135 driver (2.8 amps)??

I have been doing this with some surefire cells lately while playing with some triple R2 setups and MC-E setups.

The cells get a bit warm, but I haven't run them from fresh to dead contiuously yet.

About 5 minutes at a time is about the limit of my testing so far.

Silverfox tested these cells at 2.5A and some of them were stopped due to hitting 140 degrees F.

Anyway, comments on this please?

Thanks

It should work (for brief periods), but it's definitely not very safe if some cells are over 140F. A 18650 or 17670 is a much better choice if you can use them.

bump for anyone with some experience with this type of setup?

M6 is about 2.5A I believe.

maybe a hotwire for it is even higher?

I've measured about 3.7A at the tail for 4xSF123A in a SureFire 12ZM running an N-62 lamp assembly.

How much current are you measuring with your DMM at the tailcap with this setup? This will help a lot with determining if you are staying within a safe range. I'm **guessing** that you are probably okay and under 2.5A, but IIRC, those 7135 drivers are pretty inefficient up near 5-6v.

Pulling a solid 2.8 at the tail.

efficiency isn't really a concern, it may suffer, but hoping nothing explodes or fails.

Good output on 2 fresh ones!:naughty:

2.8A is pretty hard on CR123 primaries. I probably wouldn't run them that hard, but that's just me. :)
