I have an AW "C" cell that I received today. It is not new.

When I read it with my DMM, it shows 4.08V. However, it will not light a torch (torch is confirmed good by using another AW "C" cell).

Also, when I place this particular cell in my Ultrafire 139, the LED changes from red to green at about 1-second intervals. This is not the same as the red charging pulse which is normal. I don't know what this means.

Any other tests I could run on this cell? Does is sound like a bad one?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Tom - can the protection circuit be replaced? It seems that with these cells being out of production (for now anyway) that it might be worth the effort to try to fix the cell. Stupid idea?

Hello Bill. Hope you can get the cell up and running.

Hello Kirk,

I think a PM to AW would reveal if the protection circuit could be replaced.

The first step would be to remove it and see if the bare cell is OK.

Hello Cd-card-biz,

It kind of sounds like a bad protection circuit...

Tom

I agree. One of my AW 17670's exhibits the same behavior when being charged in a DSD. It will light a LED light thought but the kind of applications the AW "C" cells are used in are much higher current draws.
