I was at Northern tool the other day and saw a 10mcp spotlight for about 40$. Of course I opened it and looked inside. The light inside was totally different than the one pictured on the box! The one on the side of the box has 2 nice switches on the side. The one inside has one switch on the handle. The light on the box has a black cover for the backside that looks to close with a latch or something, but the one inside has a little cover that slides off.

The reflector looked very nice though.

I think it has 2x 6v batteries inside.

Anyone have this one? Is it still ok? I have a 55w ballast and some bulbs I would like to work in

Thanks!

You'll have to post a link of what you were looking at. If you're just looking for a HID host there are many options though for the price the Northern isn't a huge investment even if it's not perfect.

There is a picture of the 10MCP on the NorthernTool website, and it looks exactly how you describe that the light actually looked. It sounds to me like the light pictured on the box was their original yellow bodied 25MCP HID spotlight, which seems like an error.

yes the one on the website is what you get except the one you get is yellow.

now if you look at this link (northerns link) the first pic that comes up is the light in the box (except you get a yellow one)

if you look at more images they show the light thats on the box.

sorry to be confusing

The pic in that link is a 10MCP spotlight with 1x12V SLA, H4 globe and 2 power modes, hence 2 switches. That body is used by a whole bunch of different brands. They're here in Oz as the Arlec RT10000. I've looked at it before as a HID host, but haven't bothered yet. The Arlec ones are yellow.

It sounds like the one you looked at had the wrong unit in the box.

Some customers will swap two different models within the boxes to get a more expensive item at the lower price. Could be what happened in this case, but who knows.

Thats what I thought, so I checked the others and they all had the same one inside.

I may just pick it up today and try it out. I'll post pics of it and a tear down and all that if anyones interested
