Is the Ultrafire Cree XR-E WF-602D in HAIII worth buying?

I have a luxeon version, its identical bar the emitter. It's built and finished very well externally and very compact....but I did take mine apart to upgrade and found the pill is plastic, so virtually no heat sinking at all. Scuppered my plains to put in a 1.2a driver and SSC P4.

No emitter cooling doesn't sit well with me and because of this I would avoid, $20 can get you a better flashlight these days imo.

in my opinion no, nowadays better get Romisen RC-V4 with alot better throw and better driver. 602D HAIII is direct driven while RC-V4 is constant current.

Is the Ultrafire Cree XR-E WF-602D in HAIII worth buying? I would like to hear from those who own it. Thanks.

I'm expecting my 4th order of five of these to arrive next week. I've been pretty satisfied with them.

I gave three Fenix P1D Q5's and five P1-CE's for gifts over the holidays. That started something I didn't really expect. Some of the guys I gave the P1-CE's to 'lost them' to their wives. They each wanted something to replace them but didn't want to spend the money for a new Fenix.

My first order of five of the Ultrafire lights were intended to just scatter around my home and office for my own convience. I wound up giving or selling them at my cost to those three guys and other friends/relatives.

So, I ordered 5 more. Same thing happened again.

So, I now have my 4th order for five coming in and three of them are already spoken for. If I order again, I'll get 10 just so I'm sure to have a few left for myself.

I carry a Fenix P1D Q5 and Surefire 6P with a LED drop-in as my EDC lights. For two weeks I carried one of the Ultrafires in place of the Fenix just to see how I liked it and I was completely happy with it.

By the way, to my eyes, the P1-CE and the Ultrafire seem to put out very close to the same amount of light.

The only word of caution I could add is that the groove for the o-ring isn't very deep. So, you have to make sure the o-ring is lubed good and take your time screwing the head on the light or the o-ring could twist or bunch up on you.

What is the best led mod for the Ultrafire 602D CE? Is there a drop in led with heat sink that will fit in a Ultrafire 602D CE?

RichM,

I am somewhat surprised that so many of your friends do not have problems with CR123A based lights. I am very reluctant to gift CR123A/RCR123A light to friends or relatives.

The RC-V4 is a completely different style of flashlight. Not a comfortable EDC. I ordered the 602D based on a process of elimination. I think in the 1xCR123A size $25 and under the Chinese are having a difficult time. The reliability goes down as the size of the light goes down. It seems they have perfected the 6P size. There are many fine 6P clonish examples for cheap. But when you start looking for a small 1xCR123A size light you hear more quality issues.

The 602D is the only small <$25 flashlight on DX or KD I could find with good quality reports on CPF. I ordered the $12 version. Also there is a Q5 version on ebay for $25.

Vikas, I give them each six CR123A batteries to get them started and let them know that they can buy Surefire batteries at Lowes 2@$5.49 or so. They also know that we can get together for a group order.

By the way, my latest DX order arrived today (sooner than I thought). It shipped on 3/3/08.

I did notice that on two of the five I received there was a slight color difference between the two parts of the lights. Here's a photo that shows the variation. So, out of 20 that I ordered, two of them are slightly mismatched.

Out of all these 602's you're buying have you had any quality issues ?
I can't say if it's just luck, but I've had absolutely no problems. Other than the o-ring issue I mentioned above.

Usually, if there's a lemon in a bunch, I'm the one who finds it. Of course the fit and finish doesn't equal that of Fenix or other top-of-the line brands.

How hot does the Ultrafire Cree XR-E WF-602D get when left on for a long time?

I haven't left mine on longer than 15-20 minutes since by then I usually use a cloth to twist it off. Anyone else run theirs longer than that?
