the Princeton Tech Surge ? I'm a newbie here, but I own two Scorpions, a 6P SF, 9P SF, an Ultrastinger, a 4AA Xenon SL, and a 4AA7LED SL. The CR123's (plus bulbs) are eating me up on the "tactical" lights, even with volume buying. The Surge gives 6P or Streamlight brightness, adjustable flood/spot, burns for over three hours on $3.50 worth of AA's. It sounds like a gift! Any negatives ?

JohnK,

I have the PT Surge and I can definitely say it is brighter than the 6P and is more comparable to the 3 Lithium cell Surefire lights. I would recommend using NiMH as it gives a more constant light output over Alkalines. The alkies will be a bit brighter but only for the first few minutes of light, after that the NiMH has the edge. The only negatives is the size compared to the 123 based lights but you have to decide whether battery economy or size is more important. Actually, its size is not that bad as what you give up is pocketability. But for brightness and economy, I think it's a great light. If you want to be a true flashaholic, you gotta own them all anyway

. For about $30, it's a cheap gamble.

I am still on my first Surge bulb. Been through about 10 hours total. About 4 times 2 hours of ons and no offs.. that makes it around 2 hours of 10 second burst for finding stuff kinda thing. The filament still looks good.

JohnK, I'm also on my first Surge bulb with about 3 NiMH changes through it so about 6 hours. I would like to know where I can cheap replacements so I can be prepared.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">CM,

Any idea of the steady-on runtime with NiMH's?
