Is there something wrong with my new light? T100C2 MkII vs Streamlight LED DS C4

I got my T100C2 Mk II in this morning. Immediately I threw the two EagleTac 18650's on the AW-139 (won't use it for long as I have a YOHO-122 on order) that I ordered with it. They charged each for around 3hrs. I pulled them both off, seperately of course, almost immediately after the lights turned green. My multimeter is broken (have one of these also on order) so I was unable to check voltages before and after.

Now to the other question. I waited till dark and compared the throw and brightness to a Streamlight LED DS. At a distance of approximately 200ft the hotspot on the EagleTac was tighter than the Streamlight but the Streamlight was noticeably brighter. Even at shorter distances of 10-20ft the Streamlight was slightly brighter than the EagleTac but not as noticeable as the long distant shot.

Should I be concerned that my flashlight is not operating at it's peak performance or is this particular Streamlight just THAT bright. Streamlight's LED is rated at 185 lumens and the EagleTac is rated at 225 lumens at the LED.

Now I realize the Streamlight has a slightly larger and deeper reflector but at least at shorter distances shouldn't the EagleTac be just as bright or brighter than the Streamlight?

Without comparing, do you feel your T100C2 not bright enough? It is operating at turbo mode?

Throw is not everything... try a ceiling bounce

As i said previously, even at close range on the side 15-20 ft away on the side of a brick building the streamlight seemed a little brighter.

I don't have the streamlight in my immediate possesion as I am at work and it was for a coworker who needs the light to work. But I do have my Romisen RC-RG II Q5 that I just did a ceiling bounce test comparison and I'd say the hotspot on the eagletac is about 20% brighter on turbo and on general the romisen is definitely brighter.

I'd have to say that I was blown away by the brightness and spill of the romisen when I got it. I'm almost disappointed in the performance of the eagletac. :sigh:

Streamlight's quoted numbers are the actual measured system output lumens, or OTF (out the front) as you see it abbreviated often.

EagleTac quotes emitter lumens (EL), which are generally ~20% lower than OTF measurements, looks to be 75%-85% in EagleTac's case.

So in reality the actual outputs of the lights are much closer than the numbers would lead you to believe.

EagleTac, 220lm x 80% = 176lm OTF

DS C4 LED, 185lm x 100% = 185lm OTF

EagleTac's offer some of the best bang for the buck for non-rechargeable (cradle) lights out there IMO, and they're very well made.

Streamlight's are very well made as well, and offer some great features not easily found in other lights.

Most other manufacturers quote output numbers for there lights in the same way as EagleTac, that is emitter lumens. I wouldn't worry about it, looks to me like both lights are most likely performing to spec, I'd just enjoy them.

Ah. I did not know streamlight gives OTF ratings. That is one pretty bright light!

After some thought and after looking At the specs for the streamlight i've come to realize that the T100C2 is a great light for what it does! The streamlight might be a tad brighter and throw somewhat further but it only runs "up to 1hr 45mins", is bigger, and is almost twice as expensive.

The eagletac is a tad dimmer, with a little less throw but is smaller, 3hrs Proven runtime, and is nearly half the price when including a 18650 battery and charger.

Not including the romisen which is, IMHO, an awesome light for the price, I think I've done well for my first flashlight purchase!

Now I just need to decide what to buy next, a mega thrower or a top-notch AA EDC. :lovecpf:  :naughty:
