Been thinking for a while about getting a good drill mill to replace my floor drill press. It would be great to be able to mill my own parts, adapters, etc... I recently found this on a local add. This is copied from ad:

I am moving to a smaller home and am downsizing to a smaller mill drill. This is your opportunity to get a great deal on this popular mill size. Mill is in excellent condition with stand. Additional tooling such as clamp kit, collets and a few cutters. Mill includes a mini-Bridgeport vise that is not a chi-com knock off. Mill is about 6 years old and only used for hobby use.

I am out of town and will be moving this weekend. If you want it make plans now to take a look this coming Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

IMPORTANT: The picture posted is not the actual mill/drill but is typical of mine and it does not show stand. I am out of town and did not get a chance to get pics of mill before I left. Also the specs below are typical for the RF30 mill and may not be exactly the very same although I don't know what could be different since mine is the same, different brand.

· Drill capacity: 1-1/4"
· Face mill capacity: 3"
· End mill capacity: 3/4"
· Swing: 15-7/8"
· Spindle stroke: 5"
· Column diameter: 4-1/2"
· Spindle speeds 120-200-250-290-400-465-820-1090-1245-1520-1820-2500
· Spindle taper: R8
· Longitudinal table travel: 19-3/4"
· Cross table travel: 7-3/8"
· Table: 8-1/4" x 28-3/4"
· Motor: 1-1/2 HP, 110 volt, single phase
· Height: 43-1/2"
· Shipping weight: 706 lbs.

Seller is asking $800, but I am sure it could come down some.

Assuming it is in good shape, is this a reasonable buy?

If it's "the same, different brand" it could also be an RF20, which has different specs. It looks like they copied the descripton from the harbor freight site. It's word for word the same.

The extras may make it quite a deal. The stand is a $200 item, the collets can easily run $100 or more.

I've looked at this several times, but have no way to move it if I brought it home. I have no room to put it either.

I currently have a full standing drill press (about 6 foot tall or so) bolted to the concrete floor in my garage, so I would sell it cheap and place the "new" drill/mill on its place: so space-wise it is quite easy. I would probably ask my neighbor to go with me to pick it up - it should fit in pieces in his Suburban :D

I am waiting to hear from the guy, since he is about 1/2 hour to 45min or so away from me - maybe it is work taking a look at :naughty:

Thanks much Dan ;)

For the accessories alone it sounds pretty good. Pretty hard to wear these machines out with only minor home use.
I had an RF30 years ago and they are great for home use.The worse thing was changing the belts for speeds.
The cutters and holders are what cost the most.

Cheers
