Hey everyone EDCF refugee - was going to post it there.
Well for a while now I've been looking for a watch to take outdoors, whether it be cycling and camping or just out. It wont really be used for formal occasions. After a few (hundred) recommendations for a G-shock which are said to be the best bang for the buck I have decided on this one >
http://www.casio-intl.com/wat/g_shock/standard/g-301br.html
Its the one on the left, but after looking at some photos it seems that the photo provided isn't what the colour look like and the rim is more of a black. As seen here > http://images.google.com.au/imgres?.../images?q=G-301B-1A&gbv=2&svnum=10&hl=en&sa=G
You can also find more pics if you just search under Google images for G-301B-1A.

Questions:
1. How durable is the casing?
2. How loud is the alarm?
3. Is the plastic strap strong and is it comfortable?
4. Is reading it at night clear?

Well thanks for any comments.

Nick

Quick answers while I also wait for EDCF to return:

1. I would expect the watch to be durable up to G-Shock standards. Much more durable than most watches, and will probably take more damage than the wrist it's attached to. The watch mentioned has analog hands, which may make it slightly less durable.

2. G-Shock alarms are known for being softer because there are many layers of shock-resistant material between the already thick case and the module.

3. YMMV. Keep in mind that it does not take normal watch straps.

4. The watch has a backlight. I doubt the hands have much lume material, certainly no where near a Seiko diver watch.

If you want a simple worry free G-Shock I would get one of the classic designs like the DW-5600 or the newer solar powered version. They're not particularly interesting looking though.
