hi,

the p1dceq5 says 180 lumens on turbo but the l4 seems much brighter. does it just seem that way or is the fenix not really nearly 180 lumens?

thanks,

Larger smoother reflector vs. a much smaller textured reflector....

You must either have a very "unique" L4 or P1D Q5.

The P1 Q5 is MUCH brighter than just an unspecified "L4", as a "L4" can be anywhere from 80 lumens to 110 lumens, depending on the emitter inside (they all look identical on the exterior, good luck hunting).

The P1D Q5 claims 180 lumens at the emitter, but only shoots out between 140 to 150 lumens out the front (probably closer to the 140).

So depending on what kind of L4 you have, the P1D Q5 will be anywhere from 60 lumens to 30 lumens brighter, but definitely brighter.

ps. You must also remember that the beam profile between the L4 and the P1 are different, as the L4 has a very floody beam with basically no hotspot and no throw may look brighter in an enclosed space than the P1D Q5. Let the lights stretch their legs outdoors and the P1D Q5 with all of its extra lumens will win hands down.

you are correct. i was mistaken. you mentioned to take them outside. the p1d lights up the tree tops much more. first i had put both lights against a white wall at 4 feet away. i can see why the l4 seems much brighter in that scenario. i think the p1d is indeed brighter after all.

thanks for debunking that mystery for me.

I was thinking, the L4 better damn seem brighter for the price you are paying.:nana:

My P1D-CE q5 is my favourite light hands down. Sure i love my surefire too, but for runtime on Low, and insane bright on High, and small factor, holster for my belt, its perfect. I leave it at home now though in favour of an LOD on my keys, which is great for EDC needs, i mean no one really needs 180 bulb lumens everyday.Still, its my go-to light if i need something serious, and need it for a long time..
