It's not a SureFire, but...

I got one of
cabelasgp.jpg
these for Christmas... and it looks and feels a lot like a 9P with a nice finish and good weight. Threads are clean and prelubed. It's a twisty with a momentary on/off button on the end. The light module is a 9V Xenon rated at 150 lumens. The spot is not as well defined as an LED, and the reflector is of average quality. It's not a SureFire, but it's pretty impressive for a G&P light considering the cost.

I wonder if this light will accept drop-ins that fit the 9P. The diameter of the module is 1-3/16" across the front.

I'd like to hear from any of you who are familiar with these lights. I want to convert it to an LED using a M60 if possible to have a bright light with better runtime. Any ideas or advice? Thanks.

I believe that it will take SureFire dropins, but I'm sure someone will know for sure.

most of those G&P rebadges that take reflector module bulbs are standardized on the "D26" design. It should work with lots of options.( including Surefire and other G&P, Ultrafire, LumensFactory, Wolf-Eyes, etc).

that series of Cabela's xenons are almost an identical replication of the current surefire 6P and went into circulation sometime in 2004 [as 2003 cabelas master catalog didnt have it] then surefire decided to remake the model of 9P in aluminum as stated in the 2005 catalog,

Due to popular demand, the 9P original is being reintroduced in 2005.

I believe the lamp assemblies should be identical also...with the exception of quality:whistle:

They discontinued the 9P, but brought it back into the product line with the addition of a lockout tailcap.

Yup, I've heard this before. Didn't understand the way he said it though.

The 9P has pretty much been available for as long as I can remember, it must not have been out of the product line-up for very long.

Jvalera,

This part of your post is fine: "Just get a Surefire an be done with it,"

This part is not: "You will have more self respect in a way..lol. Yes .. seriously"

Surely you see why? The first is a recomendation about lights and purchasing them--that's what we're all about here and everyone has his or her own opinions and favorite lights. But the second part of your post is personal and insulting. Please remove it.

I own 12 SureFires and they are as good as it gets. They are expensive. I don't like SFs MSRP policy and I am not happy they don't allow their dealers to take their lights apart to sell bodies and all the other parts. I also own a G&P/Digilight 12P lamp assembly and a G&P/Cabela's turbohead. They are both about 220 lumens as advertised, and have very smooth SureFire like beams. They are good products I would buy again. I have been very close several times to buying one of the G&P/Cabela's incand. flashlights. I think the 6V one would make a great inexpensive host for an LED drop in.

I also own several Fenix lights, a Streamlight TL-3 and a Pelican M6 and two ARCs. All, darn good products.

Having said all that, I don't understand the SF snobbery I have seen for 4.5 years on this board, especially when it is applied to new members. A few of you SF owners sound like most of the BMW owners I have run across :). "The ultimate driving machine", yeah, right. In somebodies immortal words, "lighten up Francis".

Hey Roymail, I think you got a darn good flashlight!

Thanks, ugrey... I appreciate the information and help from an experience SF owner. This part is especially good to know... "I also own a G&P/Digilight 12P lamp assembly and a G&P/Cabela's turbohead. Thanks very much for taking the time to answer and for being specific @ the OP. Happy New Year to you and all CPF folks!

Must admit, I didn't know those Cabela's lights in that particular style were G&P models. Thank You to both you and the OP.

I have two of those lights. The 2xCR123 5watt LED model is a decent two-stage light. But nothing special. The smaller 1xCR123 LED version of the same light is nearly junk. Mine had what looked like SuperGlue, all over the outside of the screws used to hold the clip in place. And I found out why!

Those are the cheapest, junk screws that it has been my misfortune to own! While trying to unscew one of them to adjust the deformed clip on my 1xCR123 light, (which came deformed right out of the box) the head of the screw snapped off! :sick2:

I bought the two lights on a special trip to Cabela's. While I'm sure they would have made things right, going back was out of the question. I ended up having to snap off the clip. My clipless light works well.... It looks like something you'd find in a dumpster. Still has some SuperGlue on part of the barrel. But it works.

The free holster that came with it? A perfect fit for my Streamlight NF-2 model without the combat ring in place.

Well. I have no problem with buying less expensive lights. Wolf Eyes makes some very nice quality lights. I just got an explorer today with no bulb from a forum member but the build quality feels just as good as the Pila GL3 I got in on a passaround with a few years back. I love their lights.

I've got some surefires too but I dont sneer at anything, except a 100% stock mag lite :)

Take Care and welcome to the world of real flashlights, you're off to a good start.
