ITT has a problem

Hmmm, a $100m fine. It's NOT enough!! I'm not merely speaking of the "monetary fine"...someone needs to be held responsible! The article mentions knowingly omitting info from the Arms Exports Required Reports. They're talking criminal convictions.

Classified technology transferred... :thumbsdow

Agreed Carpe - NOT GOOD AT ALL!! Ticks me off, trading profits for lives!!:mad:

On the bright side, starting around '08 or '09 we'll be able to pick up cheap, high performance chinese night vision gear on eBay.

One of the strong points of the U.S. military is that it is said to "own the night". Our military's night vision capability has been second to none in the world. With this treachery perpetrated upon the U.S. by these greedy executives at ITT, more of our solgiers lives may well be put at stake in the future, given China's reverse engineering capability and it's history of providing military technology to our potential enemies. Of course China itself being potential enemy. If it were me, I would put some top level ITT execs. in prison over this. It's nothing less than treason.

I think they know that's going to end. I'll bet they didn't want it to end today.

Them "owning the night" was one of the things that made fighting the Vietcong such hell. We learned from it.

There's no "may well" involved. These things'll be a hotter seller than Silkworm missles ~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silkworm_missile

If you or I did it, it'd be an easy case, we'd go away for life. However, people of their class build prisons, they don't go to them.

Plea agreement.... :wtf: Whoever made the decision to sell the hardware should be doing hard time. Not one of those "resort" style prisions either. Unbelievable!

They sold F-15s and F-16s with full approval of Uncle Government to Saudi Arabia.
You know the 19 (terrorists) that brought down the WTC. I know it's frustrating but
we have to face the facts, Washington doesn't care and hasn't cared for many
years now. FDR told us many years ago in politics if it happens it was planned that
way. If they sell advanced weapons to countries who support (terrorism) they dont
care about NVGoggles. I agree with the above comments as well but don't hold your
breath for jail time.

This is nothing new. Don't remember which class sub, but the machine for milling the impellers for a US sub was sold to china a while back. Impeller shape determines exactly how silent the sub is, and though this is 'common knoweldge' probably now, and sub vs. sub cold war stuff hardly affects joe 6 pack, it was an example of corporate greed undermining defense.
Remember though, night vision goggles dont win conflicts. What good did they do in Somalia? AC-130's are more effective, and tha's coming from a pacifist.
Just recalled the thing about Rolls Royce letting Russians into their machine shop. whups.
Remember that politically, and probably culturally, China has no sense of humor with the fedayeen either.

Why don't we protect our computer tech? The most advanced cpu's ever are made in Asia, though still designed here by intel amd and ibm. And who the heck let the shuttle plans go? Buran was apparently not just a knock off but an improvement.
Technology will always end up spreading, but at least the US has the social system that encourages not just education, but creativity. Keep things in perspective: If $100 billion was spent on gene therapy instead of iraq, I'll bet cancer would be cured. Imaging being the only nation in the world with the cure to cancer. Medical technology is the next revolution, not weapon tech.

That is a well known ITAR regulation and I can't believe ITT is getting away with murder. Someone at the top at ITT needs to be hung. This type of treacherous act endangers our soldiers lives

While still unfortunate in many other ways, those planes DID NOT have the same capabilities/avionics as ours! How do I know? 21 years of USAF avionics...

I agree with that as well, which makes one wonder what is under wraps that John Q
doesn't know about? When was Stealth developed, in the 70's?

Stumbled on this.

Larry

Not surprising, IBM sold Hitler tabulating machines, etc.. to Hitler during WWII. Those machines allowed them to become very efficient at identifying new targets for Genocide.

Corporations will do whatever it takes to make a buck, even if it includes selling to our enemies.

Can't be done. Those execs have sent plenty of yellow envelopes stuffed with cash to the guys in the Whitehouse.

You do not want to stir a hornets nest.
