nice review, thank you!

can you make some beamshots to compare the "Warm white" version on high with other of your lights (infinity, Novatac)??

Nice pics! I got my E3P a couple of days ago and so far I like it. As others have reported on the marketplace, it is a bit bigger than I thought it would be and of course it is quite hefty. The tint is white and I'd rate the beam at about 7 out of 10. It's not flawless but there are no artifacts that are overtly noticeable in real use and it has decent throw. The momentary switch works well and it has a nice click to it. So far I have not had any gripping problems with the smooth finish but I could see where others might. It does add something different to my collection. I won't EDC it due to its size (I EDC a Nautilus) but I'll use it walking the dog, camping etc.

Cool-white stinks!
Neutral-white rules!

just wait until warm-white versions come out.

It looks like my next light.

Agree, it's a bit bigger but it's not that much bigger than my other 1xAA lights (see pic above) in my opinion. It is, however, significantly heftier than the others due to the material used. It does not take up that much more space in my pocket but my pocket definitely has more weight to it. Some people might not like the weight, I find it reassuring. :p

I love the tint of the Q3-5A version. :twothumbs

Will see if I can work on some comparison beamshots later tonight. :grin2:

I wonder what the "with holes" label on the Q3 packaging means..

It means there are holes in the tail as a lanyard attachment point. When I ordered the E3P Q3-5A online I was asked if I wanted them with holes as a lanyard attachment point or without. I ordered the ones with holes just because I like having the lanyard attachment point available to me. :)

Wow, you really captured my thoughts as well!

This one I don't get. I knew I was buying a steel light, and it would be heavy, but why in blue blazes is it so thick? If you took out the nylon liner in the tube, it looks like it would just about house the diameter of a 17670. Just don't get the point of making it huge and sleeving it back down to the AA diameter.

The tint is white and I'd rate the beam at about 7 out of 10. It's not flawless but there are no artifacts that are overtly noticeable in real use and it has decent throw.

I got the 5A tint, and it rocks. I am not interested in any more new lights right now that don't use this or a similar type of emitter. The beam quality is, however, as bad as I have ever had from a Cree. It is as usual no big deal in real use, but since they had plenty of diameter to work with for a small light, I thought they might have achieved a cleaner beam like, ironically, my JetBeam C-LS, which is near perfect.

The momentary switch works well and it has a nice click to it. So far I have not had any gripping problems with the smooth finish but I could see where others might. Bingo, I am probably not going to have this nice, warm beam with me most of the time because it is too much to carry. I should be realistic and admit that even if it was several mm smaller in diameter, the weight would probably still produce the same result.

I wondered about this too. I figured they wanted the tail to be as thick as the head, for that smooth, constant diameter look. The nylon tube is much better than full thickness stainless which would be really heavy.

+1, I'm not interested in non-neutral lights. Way too much blue, not enough red for good CRI. I've made a list of flashlights with neutral or warm emitters. Manufacturers will do well to add their products to the list. :poke:

The beam quality is, however, as bad as I have ever had from a Cree.

-1, I think the beam is satisfactory. I don't want more OP at the expense of output.

I am probably not going to have this nice, warm beam with me most of the time because it is too much to carry.

+1, I'd rather carry the Dereelight C2H EDC with neutral emitter. Unless using a Fenix P3D belt holster, which works nicely with the E3P.

I think the idea of the foam below the window is just until it reaches you. Once you put it on display, you can move the foam and card to the bottom of the package for better display. You can also flip the die-cut foam middle section 180° so that the flashlight lines up with the window better.

True, I could've done all that but I wanted to post a pic of how the lights were originally packaged when they arrived. :)

A tint comparison beamshot with an incan...

The Element E3P Q3-5A's tint is definitely much closer to incan than the other LED lights in there.
