I just received my new R2 Jet-III M and noticed a few cosmetic changes, most notably was the inclusion of the CE (Conformité Européenne) logo in preference over the R2 logo I had seen & Premium R2 etched into the upper bezel 😉

Throw is amazing for the size of the light whilst not quite in the Spear league it's not far behind with the addition of usable (mind you with outer rings) spill, my one and only beef was I was unable to get the UI I wanted mated with the finish I prefer (black HAIII) 😉

That "China Export" logo is totally dubious and I'm disappointed to see Jetbeam using it.

I was hoping for the R2 logo addition myself, AFAIK all those coming from BOG still have that 'enhancement' 😉

Thanks worldedit the youtube clip found HERE also explains the situation well

I wonder why Jetbeam feel the need to include this mark on an obviously quality product, surely they realise it will raise suspicions about why they're doing it?

I've just ordered a Jet-III Pro ST and a Jet-I V3 from BOG, I wonder if these will come with the same marks?

I'm afraid that it must be paying off to do it. The fake marks of CE, UL, "IPX-8" are everywhere now. The last one is my favorite - according to the standard it should be "IPX8", without any hyphens or dashes inside, but it seems than no one cares. At least the manufacturers are not even pretending to take it seriously...

I dont get it, I am ignorant. So its that the CE is actually a trick to make poeple think the light meets certain European manufacturing standards? but it really just means Made in China?

I dont know, my Jet IIIM seems of the highest quality ?

I won't comment specifically on JETBeam - there's always a possibility that they are the first case I heard about where a small Chinese manufacturer has the right to bear the standard compliance mark.

Generally the problem is not only in the quality of products but mostly in the cost of performing the necessary tests and researching the legal obligations. Many Chinese manufacturers decide that this cost would be unbearable so they simply use the standard compliance marks as graphical additions to their products, without worrying what they really mean. Some products may have passed the tests, some definitely wouldn't but there isn't much anyone can do about it - in most cases China is outside of our legal system.

The lettering is too close together (see below) to be the EU's CE standard labeling 😉

Read the link Worldedit provided above. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "China Export" mark. Jetbeam is either in compliance (but maybe using slightly incorrect mark, VERY common every where), or is illegally using the CE Mark.

I suspect JetBeam is legally using the mark, but one could email them and ask. I don't see why people are immediately assuming the use of the mark is illegal, or some sort of ruse.

Lets see what the distributor says.

Yeah the CE logo makes it look like a toy, not a "military tactical" flashlight.

So you'd prefer Mil-Spec instead? No problem, only the price may be a bit higher because of the cost of printing the additional letters 🙄 The customer wish is our command, I guess.

I'm not assuming that they cannot use it - as I wrote they may be the first case that I heard about in which the certificate was actually used correctly. I think the CE marking process is one the easiest since with flashlights they could probably even be self-ceritificated.

Why do you think it is very common for manufacturers to go through the complicated legal process of acquiring the certification and then fail to write its mark correctly?

If someone is planning to ask about the mark, don't forget to ask for a copy of the Declaration of Conformity or, if they have it, the Certificate of Conformity.

I was not specifically directing my comments towards you, just seemed like a trend was forming. Sorry if it seemed otherswise.

I don't know how many go through the full certification and use the wrong Mark, but I just see the Mark technically incorrect all the time. Did those manufactures self certify? I don't know?

With the new Certification process, it looks like many probably have it certified at some factory, and another one doing the engraving, and who knows where the artwork comes from. When everything is all in-house it is more reasonable to expect that if they are certified, they used the correct mark. These days, I'm not sure if there is widespread abuse of the mark, or it is considered such a formality now a days that no one really pays attention anymore.

Well I'm afraid there is... and it's staring you in the face, it may have started out as a 'bit of a joke' made in reference to those manufacturers using the incorrectly spaced logo on their products without actually having certification (and hailing from China), but now has become an increasingly accepted term to describe the incorrectly spaced CE mark 😉

Like it or not, the fact remains there are 2 co-existing CE logo/marks...

Many Pelican lights are CE certified (amongst other certifications) this relates to their conforming with the EU's Equipment and Protective Systems in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres directive specifically firefighting lighting products 😉

Bottom line (regardless of meeting criteria) I would've preferred it not applied to the body of the flashlight at all 🙁

My A2 has the "CE" marking, however according to M@elstrom's post and wikipedia it would be considered incorrect??
