just a suggestion?

thanks to brock, craig and all. would it be possible to follow craig's lead and have this bb show up with a black background and white text for those of us who like to compare led lights with the least amount of ambient light possible. i'm on web tv with 27" tv and need to kill the brightness down as opposed to the zones level. just a thought as the tv/lights may become more efficient. isn't that the name of the game?

I'll make the changes. The last time we had a dark background with light text there were some complaints that it was hard on the eyes.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! It's torture enough reading Craig's site; don't make me face it here, too!

The easiest thing to read is dark text on light background... that's why books are printed on bleached white paper, not that lousy stuff we used to write on in elementary school that still had the wood chips floating in it.

I have to agree with Kris...not only that but I often type in the dark as my wife goes to bed early... the light from my laptop screen is often the only light she will allow.

To be honest I like it as it is, when I was performing my tests the other night I turned the computer monitor`s brightness right down before taking the readings so its glow didn`t reflect back off me and towards the panel.

Another UBB forum I visit is here--> http://www.bulbcollector.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi . It`s black with yellow and blue bits (and very sleepy too but thats probably cos us light bulb collectors are a very few and far between). I like it best here cos it`s brighter, black is kind of depressing.
Plus things actually happen here! That other board gets less posts in a month than this board gets in a day!

Don`t get me wrong, it may turn out to be a good thing and I don`t have a problem wandering round the LED museum either, it may be dark in there but my DB18 is onhand to light the way should I get lost

Perhaps give it a try for a week though and we can all vote on whether we like it or not?

Please don't do the black background and light text. A new forum was recently started for one of my other hobbies, airguns, and it had the dark background. That lasted for less than a day due to the complaints.

I need to put my 2cents worth in. I am OK with the way it is. I find it very easy to read...I vote to leave it unchanged

i have just looked at the other forum that Chris M. talked about , i think that that set up of black backgound is ok for me , what does any one else think , after all back in the DOS days it was allways white text black background

ok it was just a thought. i like the reply about the db18? in case one gets lost! i only saw one 2 votes for a change, maybe better to leave as is. ps hey ron, could you post or e-mail me the url for this new airgun board? i'm across the river in trenton, morrisville pa and am also into airguns and just about anything that shoots, lights up or cuts. i've been going to www.shooterstalk.com it's a pretty good board. thanks

I also vote black. I find it *much* less strainful to read for a long time.
Another board I'm on (a Digimon forum) uses the black background scheme, and I can sit there for hours without having to take a break. With a white or very light background, I have to look away every minute or two because my eyeballs get frazzled and start hurting.

Craig: It's probably the refresh rate on your video card. White is more strainful than black if the refresh rate is too low. I have the same problem. No USB ports either.

My video is resident on the motherboard, and there is no way to change the refresh on it.
The computer I had before the earthquake used an ISA video card but also had a bad flicker unless I took the resolution down below 640x480.
I also have no USB ports. Won't be able to put one in until I can afford to buy Windows 98.

Well, maybe Guy`s idea of cycling through differant one`s and voting on them would be the fairest way (nick the twinkle little star idea) if it can easily be done.

Compromise...??

Soften the white...It is pretty white.

Let everything else stay the same..

That might do it. I can live with that.

Well, my only question on the display - is it possible to cut down the space above the "messages area", to get more actual text / info on the screen ?

Also, can there be more navigation shortcuts on each page, to allow us to cut back and forth more easily ?
