Its quite an upgrade from a stock 3D Mag-LED. I did a side by side comparison, obviously the tint is a huge improvement, the spill is perfect and the hotspot is wonderful. I do have some artifacts in the beam from the scratched and dirty plastic lens but I have a new borofloat lens currently in the mail as a replacement. Just curious about run-time and others experience with their malkoff mag drop in?

Congrats on getting the Malkoff, i can totally relate to your impressions regarding the tint. The throw is pretty decent as well. I'd definitely recommend changing the crappy stock lens for a glass lens asap, it'll make you appreciate it even more. I've not measured the runtime on my 4D but its been more than a year since i popped in the batteries and its still going strong with atleast ten mins use each week.

If you want a cleaner hotspot do this:

1) adjust the beam to the tightest and cleanest hotspot on a white wall

2) remove the bezel and lens

3) rotate the reflector (while keeping the head steady) until you find the nicest spot

4) carefully replace the bezel and lens while keeping the reflector steady

Thanks for the tips this made a large improvement. The combination of this dropin and the D cell for factor almost makes it the ultimate camping light in my eye's. It will be competing with my Tk41 when the season is here for top spot!
