I just ordered the BTS-8.
I called ahead first and asked the difference in performance between this model and the BTS-6 which sells for cheaper. The person told me they were two different manufacturers and said he's sold the BTS-8 for quite some time, and the BTS-6 was the "new kid on the block". He said the difference in claimed performance were quoted from the respective manufacturers, but he himself saw no real perceived difference. He also said both were reliable and that both manufacturers were great at honoring their warranties with zero hassle.

I'm chomping at the bit over here waiting for my "light saber"!
If I end up working Memorial Day weekend at one of the Pike Place Market outside booths like I did last year, maybe I'll be able to signal to Telephony

Damn it! Another person with a green laser; this has gotta stop, or you'll make me buy one too...........

All you need to do is look for this weaving in & out of the crowds:

Let us (or me) know what the name of your booth is or what you'll be selling and I'll drop by and say hello.

Some of the Memorial Day outdoor booth space near the garden center is visible from my window which is directly across from the 86 Pine St. inn, exactly halfway between Pike Place and 1st Avenue. A large music stage at the base of Pine St. may obstruct part of my view though.

Geez.. the Martians have landed!!

I'm hoping we get the same spot as last year.. pretty close to "The Pig"

Actually, it was two booths down from the guy's booth who designed the logo for the 2001 event.
I'll keep you posted, though.

I can't wait to fire that green Bad Boy up for the first time. The guy who sold it said you can actually see the beam, not just the dot.

Well, I received the green laser today!
I took it outside and went looking for the neighbor's cat (just kidding)!
grin.gif

Where I live (Michigan) there's snow on the ground, so even at night everything is "well-lit" outside. The beam is visible if you are "sighting down the barrel" as it were, and even off to one side (up to about 40 degrees). Not bad, given the conditions. The spot itself is bright as hell on whatever it hits, sort of a "splash" effect on certain things while shining it around. I shined it at the school chimney about 500' away and felt I had to only shine it a few seconds or else a patrol car would show up.

And yes, I could see the beam even though there was a sodium streetlamp in between (but off to one side).
I can't wait to see what this thing will do on a darker night.

Hey, it's difficult to have something unique these days for less than $250.

Stop it. If I but one too, I'm giving my wife your name!

Since you can specify wavelength, I'm going to try getting one around 320 nanometers

You can only specify a wavelength somewhere between 430nm and 445nm. Nobody that I know of is making a 320nm device of any type, laser or LED.

Just ordered a Green Laser from Z-Bolt also! Just had to join the bad boy Green club!

Imagine grown adults playing with such things.

We've been having rain the last 2 days here in southern Michigan. I took the green laser outside last night after the rain stopped, and I was floored!
shocked.gif

Visible even at 90 degrees; bright, and even ambient light didn't "wash out" the beam when firing it across and beyond well-lit street. Pointing upwards, it was cool seeing the beam end at cloud level.

Should have my Green Laser by Monday's UPS delivery. Can't wait to see what type of mischief I can stir up.

You'll really like it.
I'm excited about the upcoming delivery of a new "LED-Safe" vacuum cleaner (tomorrow or Monday if they have their act together) but after the first week or so it will be back to regular. You know, "awww, time to drag out the vacuum again". But the fun of a green laser pointer never seems to wear out. I've had mine for well over a year and I'm still playing with it like the day I got it.

TIP: Invest in a set or two of 600+mAh NiMH batteries & a charger. Your wallet will thank you, especially if you use (or misuse) your green laser pointer a lot. You should still keep some regular AAAs around though, just in case you get caught with your pants down.

I just received my BTS-6 and WOW!!!
If the BTS-8 is any brighter than its downright scary.

At night in a dark room I can point it at the ceiling and cast a green glow on all 4 walls. There's enough light to clearly read the face of my watch.
In a well-lit room the beam is invisible but the dot is easily the brightest point around. It was clearly visible on all surfaces, including black fabric.
Outside I could easily project the dot onto the clouds above and the beam was easily visible all of the way up.
This morning in the 6:00am darkness I could clearly see the beam in the not-so-dusty interior of my car and up on my roof at work I could easily bounce the dot onto a building a 1/2 mile away and again, see the beam stretching out behind it.
My co-workers love this thing.

You must be one of the lucky ones who live in an area of minimal light pollution. I can't even do that with my 11.6mW greenie here in the land of the 589nm sodium line.

We're expecting the first snow of the season over the weekend. I'll have to try for some pictures of my green laser interacting with it if we get any heavy snow showers or "thundersnow".

Hey Telephony, I understand from my brother that it snowed today in Seattle (he said lots of idiots cradhed their vehicles thinking 4 wheel drive is all you need to know...).

Did you try out the mean greenie in snow conditions?

007 did you know you can go back to your previous post and edit it? And no time limit.

It snowed *AROUND* Seattle today, but not in the central part of the city itself where I live. All we got was some rain.
Just about every place outside the downtown area got douched pretty well though; anywhere from several to maybe 8 inches in many locations.
Seattle? We got zip. Zero. Nothing.

We had a substantial ice pellet shower yesterday with about 1/2" accumulation on streets & sidewalks in downtown, but it happened at about 3:30pm and I didn't have the laser with me - I spent all day waiting in a line outside Safeco Field for opening day Mariners tickets starting at 10am. The ice pellets started pouring down very hard right when I was finishing up at the ticket booth.

It was all melted away by the time I got home about 45 minutes later, but I took the opportunity to lay down some doughnuts in several locations on the way home before the ice pellets vanished.
