Just picked up a TEC 40

This is my first decent light. I was hoping to pick up a Surge as well but they were sold out.

For the price it's a nice light. A lot smaller and brighter than any of the cheap D cell lights I had laying around. It looks nice also, I got the Olive Drab version. The center hot spot is very bright. There are rings easily visible even with the dimpled reflector though, not near as smooth as I was hoping.

Also, I really doubt that this light is waterproof. I'm sure it would be if it was twisted all the way on before submerging, but I wouldn't want to twist it to the off position under water. When it's first twisted on light leaks out the back of the head. If light gets out I would think water could find it's way in. I'd feel much more comfortable with the switch on the Surge.

I've got a Scorpion on it's way, I can't wait to compare it to the TEC 40.

It IS water proof, You see light leak out of the bezel (head) because they use transparent plastic for the threads to screw the head on. It doesn't compromise on water proofness in any way.

The scorpion should be brighter by a tad bit...
