KL1 flickers when out of regulation

Was fooling around doing runtime experiments with my KL1/E1 body. It has been out of regulation for a couple of hours now and flickering like a candle in the wind. Is this normal? It's too bad because the light output is still useful enough to get you out of a completely dark situation. Maybe it's the purpleness of the beam rebelling.

I've noticed mine do that too. I think it's regulations "last gasp" attempt to squeeze more light out of the batteries.

happens with my arc LS as well when its going out of regulation.

It is the battery's cycle of "recovery", in that its low output allows it to recover a bit from the constant drain so the regulation kicks in again, until it is drained it out again...

Like an elongating sine wave that slowly dies...
