Does anyone know a good place to buy the KL1( that may have them in stock)? I love my E1E, I want to put it on that. How about brightness comparisons.E1E vs KL1. Any info would be geat. Thanks.

Hi Kodiak!
I'll let you know in a couple of days. I ordered one yesterday from www.countycomm.com They're supposed to have them in stock and they sell them for $44.00 plus $6.00 shipping. I finally went for one and it seems like the perfect addition to the E1 and E2.

I just ordered a KL1 and E2O from Texas Tactical Supply. They were $39.99 and 67.99 respectively, plus $9.99 shipping. I'll let you know if I get a backorder notice

I went with Gene and called countycomm. I bought it for 44.00, 6.00 shipping. They said it will be 7 to 8 days

Finally ordered my KL1 from Sableco.net which have several in stock. Interesting that E1e lamp or KL1 are both 90minute burn time. LED I know will go technically longer but not at the higher regulated brighteness from what I hear.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The KL1 I have is about 20% brighter than Arc LS's that I have. The downside of the KL1 is that it runs about 1.5 hours at near full brightness were the Arc LS runs 2.5 hours at near full brightness (before regulation drops out).

Here you go, more pics.

The difference in real life use between the KL1 and Arc LS isn't very noticeable. To see a difference they have to be side by side. I prefer the Arc LS for it's smaller size and longer runtime, although brighter is nice too.

In order of brightness from least to most from my collection is

-Arc LS 0.9
-CMG Reactor (better with lithiums but still not as bright as the rest).
-Arc LS second (400ma?)& BB400, close to being a tie with each other.
-BB500 (greenish coronoa) just very slightly brighter then LS or BB400
-BB500 (white to slightly violet)
-KL1 (very violet, similar to Sean's picture above). Slightly but noticable (10 percent?) brighter then previous mentioned BB500.

I prefer each and all over the E1 stock LA. I prefer the beam characteristics of my BB500 with white beam but it's a crap shoot. You buy enough Luxeon lights you'll bound to find one you like. I find that the greenish corona type Luxeon's tend to have a wider area of light while the violet/white Luxeon's have a brighter hotspot with less surround light.

Ditto - your observation is consistant with the LSs that I own also.

My position exactly. Given the current "state of the art" it's really the only way to achieve relative satisfaction.

I'm very encouraged by recent experiments with the new Luxeon SE's, which appear to promise brighter light from the same power source (greater efficiency) as well as the potential for true white light.

Where's mine. Been a month since ordering it... How am I gonna check the inside of the turkey on Thursday?

Oh.. ultrastinger will take care of that (and cook it too.. if needed)

Well, I received the K1 yesterday, (did you get yours yet Kodiak?). Let me say I'm impressed! I tried it first on the E2 but it just looked funny to me and I like the powerful regular Surefire LA beam better. Then I put it on the E1 and bingo! Even though I have one of the very first E1's, the HA color matched my old E1 perfectly. It just looks "right" on the little E1 and hardly adds any extra bulk. I had an old cell in the E1 and it was almost exhausted. I shined the E1 on the wall with the regular LA first and got a tight but almost "yellow" beam. I then put the K1 on and what a difference! Surprisingly bright and a nice spread-out flood of light, (a little "bluer" than I like but one expects that from an LED), and all this with an almost exhausted cell. Can't wait to try it with a fresh one. Of course you have to consider the price of admission with the K1, (it cost more than I paid for the E1 new), but if you're looking for an almost perfect EDC, (IMHO), LED light, you can't do much better. One more note. This K1 is from the latest batch, (AO1667), and it exhibits none of the flaws I've read of the earlier ones. No epoxy drips or ANY flaws at all. Good stuff although at a high tarrif.
