Hello!
I have a Kodak Alkaline "D" battery, model LR20, made in USA for Kodak. The (-) end looks like a typical D battery with the concentric rings stamped in the metal. The (+) end is totally flat like the old-style cheapie import batteries. Anybody know why there is no button on the (+) end? These came in an antique French "artillery sighting set" my wife got me for Christmas from Deutsche Optik, I believe.
Regards,
Kirk

What you have sounds like a flat-top cell. These are common with rechargeable cells for use in packs, but I've never seen flat-top Alkaline D cells.

I would make sure that button-top D cells will fit in place of the flat-top cells, as they are typically slightly longer including the length of the button.

gwbaltzell,
Thanks for the link. Now, if both ends are flat, why would it matter if the + and - are reversed? And, how would a person know except by looking at the side of the battery case? Also, what is the purpose? I can see all sorts of problems arising from reversing a couple of cells if you're in a hurry!
