I have sometimes been curious as to whether the Kodak Pre-Charged cells are the same as Hybrids with a different label.

So when I was last in Wal-Mart I compared two packs side by side. I noticed that even though both have black tops, they don't look the same. The Kodak cells have four small holes in the plastic around the button, but the Hybrids don't. Also the ridge on the negative end seems a different shape on the Kodaks.

So maybe they are made in a different factory or on a different production line. I don't own any Hybrids to do electrical comparisons of them, so I couldn't say if the differences are only cosmetic.

I just pulled six hybrids off the charger and you might be amused to know four have white tops and two have black tops. And here's the good part, when you tap the two black tops together they have a ceramic clang to them where the white tops do not ;)

I've got some eneloops and kodaks too, they all sound different when you tap them together. The Kodaks do have a different nipple design than the others. The bottom designs all look different too, but they must have a lot of different tools stamping those out. The eneloops and hybrids have worked well for me. I haven't tried the kodaks yet.

That is interesting. I've only seen black top Hybrids so far and the 16 I have are all black tops.

I also noticed that the cardboard packaging on the Hybrids I bought has copyright date of 2006.

I wonder if the white top ones have a different date on them.

Not by external appearance, or diameter measurements.

Nor by claimed specs -
RoV Hybrid - 500 cycles
Kodak P-C - 1,000 cycles

This photo has been used in lots of places -
I think I have found the correct source - so I can credit it properly - it is from the Amazon eneloop 4pk listing or the 8pk listing and credited to NLee the Engineer -

It is also interesting to read NLee the Engineer's review in either Amazon listing - differerent titles, but they look the same.

His reviews in the Amazon Kodak Pre-Charged listing and Amazon RoV Hybrid listing are worth looking at too.

His review in the Amazon Duracell Pre-Charged listing also contains this comparison photo -
