(Someone let me know if this has been done before.)

I hated the way my lights would flicker and sometimes be dimmer than normal when clicking the Kroll switch on. So I just took one apart and found an easy solution. Remove the big spring that pushes the battery and under it is a smaller one (not the one on the side that touches the battery case). Lift a coil of the small spring up with a small screw driver so you can slide the first coil of the big battery spring underneath it and reseat the big spring. Now the two springs are in firm contact with eachother. It seems to work great with my lights, no more flickering and the lights are at full brightness.

Thanks Dave..they are pretty simple little switches that cause some pretty frustrating problems at times! It's a drag when you are trying to impress someone with a beam and that darned flickering is present.

Just fixed one of my son's tonight!

Also put a dab of conductive grease on that junction and on the one where the side spring contacts the metal part of the plunger. Do that, and the switch seems to work much better. Sometimes though it doesn't seem to matter what you do. I've had to toss a couple of the Krolls just to avoid pulling my hair out! Mostly they can be fixed up fine though.

Another tip is to replace the ( battery spring ) with one from a old style mini m@g tail cap. It is the same size ( old style only the new ones are smaller ) and has some type of anti corrosive coating on it. Seems to make it more conductive.
I pack mine with Nyogel 759G also it helps a lot.

I've only had one kroll switch problem so far. It was the same problem that HunterSon had. I tried Darell's solution but didn't work in my situation. The problem finally got resolved when I pulled out the spring that contacts the body of the flashlight and stretched it out and threw it back in. Worked fine after that.

Sorry for the repost of past info, I got so excited that my Kroll was working I wanted to share with everyone. The CPF is such a large source of information on Lights that it is sometimes hard to see the tree from the forest. (Maybe another flashlight will help?)

As far as you possibly repeating a post ... I never saw the earlier posts on the subject. Sometimes certain information should be refreshed so newer members or those who don't monitor the forum on a regular basis can keep up. The search function is not very useful in some circumstances.

I had experienced the same flickering with my Kroll equipped Mini Mag with Inretech white LS. Coincidentally, I had just removed my Inretech LS from my MiniMag to put it into my Eveready Accuspot 2aa when I read your post. I immediately tried your suggestion with the spring, and voila! No flicker!

So thanks, HunterSon! YUUDAMANN! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Great idea! Did it right away. Seems to have fixed up my Mini Mag. Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I personally like the Kroll switch very much except for the issues of the rubber cap that makes it stick to things when drawing and withdrawing. I've had good luck with them except for one time.

I was installing one in the tailcap of a G2 a couple of weeks ago to make a clickie for the G2, (thanks Ray and whomever!). I checked to make sure it was working properly before I began. After I installed it in the G2, it stopped working altogether! I tried a bunch of different things but it just wouldn't work. I then did the same thing Menace did. I took the long ground spring out and stretched it slightly, reinstalled it in the Kroll and everything worked perfectly! I have used it many, many times since and it still works like a charm.

There is no problem with the repeat of the posted question. I was just pointing you toward more information.

I too wish that the Kroll wasn't so "grippy" going into and out of my pocket.

I thought that a shroud, stamped out in stainless steel, would work well with the Kroll & mini-Mag/Brinkmann 2 AA.
I guess it would work something like the tail end of a McLux.

Also, check out this mini-Mag/Brinkmann - Kroll/RAM lanyard attachment ring.

Shankus,

I like this idea of a shroud. It would be like a thimble, with a hole in the top big enough for the threads of the kroll but small enough to secure itself between the body of the minimag and the rubber boot of the kroll. The walls of the thimble would flare out a bit to make it easier to thread the kroll in. Obviously, the walls would need to be slightly taller than the boot of the kroll to allow for tail standing. It should be very easy to punch holes in the walls to allow for lanyards or brass button tab thingies. I just sketched it out in my notebook but I don't have a scanner!

The pic above came from a screenshot from eMachineshop CAD software I downloaded.

It's free software. You design a part, select materials etc., and submit it online with credit card, and they build and ship the parts to you.

I've never tried it, but I was playing with the CAD software, and that's what I came up with.

I don't think the diameter would need to be large to accomodate the Kroll. You could push it into a shroud just large enough for the Kroll, and thread the two parts on simultaneously.
I think it would work.
