SF just sent me a new tail cap. Now the bulb is apparently dead.
Is there a super bright alternative to replace the p60 lamp assembly??

I have never had one go out on me until now.

There are so many choices it will make your head spin. Lumens Factory are nice if you want to stay incan and keep using primaries.

Also check out the D26 drop-in thread for a few ideas on changing to LED.

Lumens Factory. The only way to go...

There are many excellent dropin LEDs, but if you want incan. Lumens Factory is the way to go.

There are many available configurations available base on what kind of battery you want to use. They have a bit less bulb life compared to SF, but cost quite a bit less, and have better throw.

For 2 x CR123s = ES-6/SR-6/HO-6/EO-6

For 1 x 17670 = HO-4 (HO-4??)

For 2 x RCR123s = ES-9/SR-9/HO-9 (EO-9??)

For the 6P it comes down to what's more important: brightness or runtime, and whether you require/want incandescent or LED.

For brightness with incandescent you should look at the Lumens Factory HO-9 on 2x 3.6v RCR123s.

If you want to go LED, there are a great many Cree drop ins that will give you great output and decent run times.

For the 6P I favour the Crees these days, I've got an older drop in (can't even remember the bin - it was a pretty cheap unit from DX and is still great) and the modern Q5s would appear to be even better. The Malkof drop in (if you can get one) appears to lead the pack, given the opinions expressed by those lucky enough to get their hands on one.

I'd have to say, unless you really want an incan, the cree is probably the way to go for run time and brightness in the 6P siezed package.

Right now I'm using one of THESE DX #6090 which I like very much. It's $10 and change but works surprisingly well. Quite a few people use them around here. Nice white beam... not blue-ish or any other color just white... about 80-100 lumens (my estimate). By all reports it runs good on a single AW 17670. I'm running mine on primaries right now since I don't run it a lot.

One more worth mentioning is the Dereelight Q5 drop-ins... very reasonably priced and excellent quality. Lots of reading on this subject available. Good luck.

great excuse to convert that thing to a LED. Incans are severely outclassed by LEDs in this size arena. The only thing that is sortof brighter (depending on how your eyes perceive it) is going to be the HO-9 on 2xRCR123 with a ~20 minute runtime. You can get similar brightness for over an hour with an LED drop-in.
