Hi Guys,

I just picked up a 5mW greenie from VitalSpirit's Ebay store and I'm quite pleased. I have to admit that I already did the pot mod and while it's probably not more than 15mW (can't melt anything) it is about as bright as I would want it.

Now onto my observation. I've noticed on startup that the spot is very bright. Then it quickly and visibly dims and then brightens back up again. Is this something to be concerned with? I've swapped the alkaline cells for some 700mAh nimh AAAs.

Thanks,
Wilkey

BTW, I've been reading up on the amazing modding and lasers you guys own and I'm very impressed.

Heya Wilkey!
Green lasers in these pointer cases were never designed to go much over 5mW.
The thing to keep in mind is the diode likes to be cool and the crystals like to be warm. Therefore, power fluctuations may occur during the warmup process (first few seconds).
If it is very pronounced, you might have been unlucky and got a dud but if it's faint, it should be normal...
After adjusting the potentiometer, it does get more visible in my experience.
Oh and nimhs are good.

Thanks KFC. Sounds like I'll just take it easy on it. But that's hard to do since playing with this thing is so much fun. Oh well, perhaps one day I'll step up to a Wicked.

Wilkey
