over the dark mountainous desert in a Piper Arrow with a newly upgraded panel: Garmin 430 (GPS Nav\Com), Garmin MFD (Multi Function Display), lovely electro luminescent green instrument lighting (not the best color for night vision but it attenuates nicely and the steam gages are legible) All very nice except for the electrical rocker switches, unlit and all but invisible ...I can't tell the fuel boost from the landing light. No problem, I'm sporting an A2 like a necktie with those ruby red leds. But, each time even the fringe of ruby sidespill got near the micro photocell on the Garmin 430, the autobrightness would briefly flare to max. I covered the the display with my hand, trying to preserve what's left of my night vision, but the light would reflect back and bootstrap the autobrightness of the display. To add insult to injury my copilot's minimag incan with red filter (sort of a dim diluted orange with donut hole) would not affect the display at all.
…that ever happen to you guys?
