Long time reader, first time poster.

Just received an enLux LED Floodlgiht. Man is it bright. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif It has a very even light beam, definately not focused. I counted 64 LEDs mounted directly to a circuit board. And I do mean that the LEDs are right on the circuit board, no 5mm packages, no luxeons. I havn't see this before.

Also has fins, which I assume is for cooling. Is cooling really necessary?

One bad thing though, costs $90.

Anyone else have experience with these? I'm pretty impressed.

I tried to take some pics, but my camera is not good at closeups. Anyhow, you can still see the LEDs laid in a grid. And also see the cooling(?) fins. Even with the fins, it still gets warm when left on for an hour or so.

Will this work in a semi-exposed outdoor fixture? IOW is it rain proof?
Nevermind--Adobe takes awhile for me

UL approved for wet and dry locations.
However, in wet environments, the LED
floodlight should be aimed downward to
prevent water from contacting the screw
base.

May be a solution for a lighting problem I have, Thanks!

I would assume the fins are there because they're critical.

64 LEDs disspating 22 watts would need some sort of sinking. The heatsink is likely bigger than necessary, but that buys you some margin for sub-optimal environments, like non air-conditioned environments...

Make a great reading light, I am thinking about getting one for that purpose if it will run from 240 volts

This was mentioned in Popular Science magazine. It was in their special issue on the Best of What's New (2004?). They didn't have any technical info though.

Its not a Lamina board. It has Enlux printed right onto it. And I looked at Lamina's website, and I don't see anything similar. The Enlux board is 8 sided octagon. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone else using this?

"The Enlux board is 8 sided octagon."

...as opposed to the 7sided octagon? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just being a s/***... couldn't help myself sorry /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
