Guys, I have a friend of mine that works for a mobile home company and I help him in the dealership.

I want him to put some lights on some of his houses (outdoors) but instead of putting the big 500w halogen lights, I was wondering if there is anything in LED's that is powerful enough to make a dent but that would take less power and of course, last longer for better value.

I know they have these LED clusters in regular light bulb sockets but not sure if they are strong enough. Any other options?

Also, what is a good 18650 battery and where to get it (rechargeable)?

Thanks

George

Well, I don't expect 500 watts but was wondering if there is anything that will even get me closer.

As for the batteries, I never did understand what a protected battery was and do I need it?

Thanks

George

A protect battery has a circuit to prevent the battery from being overcharged or overdischarged. Both if which will damage the battery, and if damaged enough, the battery has a chance of venting.

It's usually safer to use a protected battery.

If you are looking to light up the house, it might take quite a few LEDs and maybe a custom thing.

what you need is a massive peice of aluminium, and alot of bare LEDs...and some powersource. I mean, ALOT of bare LEDs if youre thinking of significantly lighting up a Mobile Home.

Crenshaw, I'm not sure if I'm smart enough to rig the thing up myself. If I were, what LED's should I buy and would they all be 12v or so? Any 110v LED's out there?

ginaz, that's kinda what I was looking for. Any idea what I would need to drive this thing and how much the 1700 lumens will actually LOOK like? Ie, 100w regular bulb, etc..?

Thanks

well i myself would find problems with rigging that up. although to my knowledge..

is the most cost effective, use bulkrate to order it, its cheaper.

youll need thermal glue

and for driving it, i am not sure, guys, is direct drive perhaps the way to go? or can we just use one driver from DX, and connect everything in series

if drivers, some of these.

then thermal-glue the LEDs directly to a block of aluminium, which acts as a big heatsink, and connnect up all the wires properly.. find a battrery source, and youll have a very big directional flood area light

btw, 1700 lumens is the equilivant of maybe 2 regular light bulbs....

Alright, this is officially over my head :(
so, are these lights intended for security purposes? are they on all night or are they going to be on a motion sensor? there are many energy efficient options out there that will put out the same lumens as a 500w halogen, if they are going to be on all night, HID and Fluorescent come to mind

from what i understand, he is looking for a light that can light up mobile homes at night so that customers can see it?
