I've got one of the infamous Fenix E01 on my keychain and it's so convenient and useful to always have a torch handy. Even friends and family now want one, so I ordered a few.
I was always intrigued with the LED Lenser P2 though, and now got one as a gift. For comparison: I payed 12€ for the last E01 and 20€ for the P2, both including shipping.
The P2 arrived today, and it won't be used until July, but I tested the functionality, compared it with the E01 and want to share my thoughts:
I can't say anything about runtime yet, but this is my preleminary conclusion: The P2 is definitely the better gift. It comes with all the handy stuff and nicely packed in a gift box. The "Blue Moon" looks really nice.
On the other hand, if you don't need the extras, the E01 provides the same light, but is a lot smaller and has the superior UI for a great price.
So long, I hope I didn't bore you. I'll tune in again when I find another great inexpensive AAA torch.

- Both units use a Nichia LED of the same type, and accordingly, the light output is about the same.
- I personally like the design of the P2 better, but not by much
- The P2 comes with a nylon holster (incl. carabiner), a metal clip (it's not fixed to the unit like the pictures might suggest), a strap and a battery, all nicely arranged in a gift box. The E01 only came with a spare o-ring and a little ring for fixing it to a keyring. If you order the Fenix clip with the E01, the costs are nearly identical, and if you also buy a gift box, it's even more expensive than the P2.
- The P2 is 2.5 cm (~1 inch) longer than the E01 🙁
- The best thing about the P2 is the "Blue Moon", it is what makes it a cool gadget. When you turn the head out, an amazingly sharp blue circle appears around the light beam, and it looks really cool (like this. When you turn the head back, there isn't more throw as one would be expect, but the light turns yellowish and seems to become darker. Why is there an option for this? I want the blue moon!
- The P2 isn't turned on by turning the head like the E01. It has a clickie in the back. Not that great if a bunch of keys dangle around there.
- Also, the P2 becomes even longer (~1 cm) when focused for the "Blue Moon" effect.
