Hey guys. I saw the new LED Mini Mag lights at a sporting goods store. I've been looking for a good light to throw in my man purse for an EDC light. Has anybody had nay experience with these lights? I tried searching the forum but it said there was an error, so forgive me if this was a recent discussion.

Personally, I find them to be of rather poor quality. I got one shortly after it came out, and within a few days it started flickering a lot, sometimes not even turning on. I returned it and got another. Within 1.5 months that one started doing the same thing. After that I gave up on them.

You'd probably do better with one of the around $20 Cree lights from the Chinese stores. Or a Wolf-Eyes Sniper with a Cree dropin and you would have a light that you won't be updating in a hurry.

I've had both 2AA and 3AA MMLED versions for a while now, going on a year I'd guess. Both lights have seen a fair amount of use with no problems so far. (Come with a lifetime warranty from a reputable company if problems should arise sometime down the road.)

I prefer the 3AA MMLED for its much brighter output and longer runtime compared to the 2AA. But, the 3AA may be too long to carry in your man purse. The 3AA makes a good utility light and has better output and runtime than 2D incandescent lights. I think of my 3AA as a skinny "2D replacement" since it is about the same length as the venerable Mag 2D.

The 2AA MMLED is a decent light, but there are probably better value 2AA LED lights available for about the same price. The Ray-O-Vac 2AA LED and RiverRock 2AA LED come to mind as better bang for your buck, and they are available at Target and WalMart.

.

I would rather recommend Inova X1 from target for about 20 bucks if you are not comfortable ordering from overseas.

It uses 1 AA battery, runs for 8 hours and bright for 1 cell light. See review here:

Enjoy.

I see (saw) the main purpose of an AA light as being SMALL to be pocketable.
The MM-Leds are too freaking long and thus not to recommend, even if they were technically good (which they are not)
get someting else.

cheap: any one stage fenix clone from www.dealextreme, f.e.
best bang for buck: an original Fenix (which also gives quite an impressive output, not only small size)

I've had MM LED's since they came out and I personally have had no problems with them. As stated above, they're about the same quality as the incan MM's, i.e.: some rattles, usually need to be cleaned & lubed right out of the box, etc. OTOH, I run some on lithiums with no problems. Why EDC it? If someone borrows it, I don't panic (they are definitely not an endangered species). Its form and function works for EDC at work. The vast majority of bags or pouches that are out there are made to carry MM's, so other than the MM LED's being a bit longer, they fit, too (look for bags/pouches with light tubes that are open at the bottom). BTW, get the accessory kit if only for the anti-roll cap. Another tip: wrap a bit of reflective tape around one to make it easy to spot when you drop it and to make it stand out from someone else's.

Just a few comparisons: The RR 2xAAA is loose and needs an o-ring after only about a year, but is light weight. The Inova Radiance 2xAA seems to be pretty stout but for some reason that I can't put my finger on, I almost never EDC it -- well, I don't care for the switch, but that alone isn't enough of a reason to just use it as another "house light." The Eveready LED pen light (with lithiums) which should be a no brainer for a light to EDC anyplace just sits in a drawer -- hmmm, maybe move it to a pen slot on the FatBoy? You can never have too many lights in/on a Maxpedition FatBoy.

So, no they are not the ultimate light, not even within the price range, but with lithiums and an anti-roll cap, they work for me as an EDC that's cheap & easy. Good for leaving in the glove box, too.

My biggest problem with my Mag 2AA LED is that the light just goes *blink* when the batteries get low. No moon mode at all.

Better hope you got another light with you if you are carrying a Mag LED.

For only a few bucks more than a Mag 2AA LED, you can get a Streamlight ProPoly 4AA. Very rugged light with awesome output, and it won't just go *blink* as the batteries weaken.
