Forever I’m a big fan of Incandescent lights. Surefire 6P was the first high end flashlight I ever owned and is still the most special one in my collection today. The streamlight Stinger Color Rite gives off that same beam and old school whiteish/yellow color as my Surefire 6P. They found a way to give you the old school beam with the benefit of LED. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this light?

Looks like it might be a Nichia 519a that they’re using based on pics of their other Color-Rite models where you can see the LED.

The 3000K 519a isn’t my favourite but it is pretty nice when used outside.
If I could choose I’d go for 3500K (which is closer to a decently driven incan) and 2x18650 or 2x21700.
The proprietary battery pack isn’t necessarily a bad thing though.

It’s nice to see the Streamlight is adding high CRI and lower CT LEDs to their lineup. I’d love to see Surefire do this with something like the Back up. A 4500K or 5700K 519a in that light would be perfect, much better than the XML2. They could call it the Detective or Inspector etc (or not change the name at all), where a nice high CRI smooth beam would be optimal for examining stuff.

Streamlights’ Color-Rite looks like a good move to me.
Let us know what you think of it with some comparison to incandescent light if you get one.

Predictably, It doesn't fit the magic formula to generate much chat here, but I think it's pretty cool from what I can tell. The Strion system is more in line with my needs, and if there was a CR version in that line I'd probably have one, but a few Stinger users have commented, mostly favorably. SL has other CR models as well, and I think it's to SL's credit that they are incorporating them in their lineup. The market response will determine how far they take it.

Do you have one?

Here's one post from a pro user who has one:

I agree, it’s not going to get a lot of chat here but I also think it’s pretty cool.

I’m currently waiting on a HL6, another light without general appeal on the forum.

Yes just got it yesterday!!

I get it, not the most exciting conversation starting thread. But I’m excited being a fan of Incan lights. Getting everyone’s input is always interesting. Can’t be worse than going on a Ford F150 forum and 10 people a day asking what kind of engine oil to use or will 35 inch tires fit without a lift on stock rims

Looks like Streamlight is offering 3000k and 4000k in their Color-Rite series. I agree that a 3500k version would be nice.

Yep, the light I was looking at (where I could see the LED in the photo) was 4000K.
This light:

The 4000K high CRI LED is the flood one at the bottom of the reflector.

In the case of the Stinger, I think that's strategic, with one likely target market segment being long-term Singer users who (might) prefer the CTs they're accustomed to, but want the advantages of LED. I suspect there are many who aren't wild about the high CTs that are so in vogue these days in the market (primarily driven by output I suppose), and that CR model could hit the mark for them. Clearly there was sufficient target market interest to build it, but we'll see if the sales support that. If they do, we could see a CR Strion someday...
