LED version of \'Itty Bitty Book Light\'?

I've been looking for a small, lightweight (for travel, etc.) LED "copy" of the Itty Bitty Book Light design to give as a gift. The design should be pretty simple, likely with a little diffuser for the white LED, and I'd expect a 3 AA battery pack. I find it hard to believe somebody isn't making one of these. I wasted a lot of time running down dead ends from a google search.

Anyone seen a reading light similar to the Itty Bitty Book Light, with a LED on the little folding boom? Seems like an obvious product, given the energy efficiency of the LED. The 4 C cell battery pack for the Itty Bitty Book Light is both bulky and heavy.

I don't know much about it, but I noticed the Lumatec on this page of the Eastern Mountain Sports site.

Gandalf, there is a really nice thread in the forum for cold cathode reading lights. It looks like there is some reason to believe that CCF lights are even more efficient than LEDs?

I'm not sure what this "itty bitty" light of yours looks like, but you may be able to use the Energizer Folding Lantern. It has a flat square head that opens & unfolds with a large range of motion. It has two white LEDs with diffusing tubes, and you can run one or both LEDs, selectable with a switch. Runs on AA cells.

Is this anything at all like what you're looking for?

Re: LED version of \'Itty Bitty Book Light\'?

I've seen the Energizer Folding Lantern, in fact I bought one, but the elderly relative I gave it to doesn't like it for reading. That's why I'm looking for something specifically made for reading, that's smaller and lighter, and that clips onto the book.

The 'Itty Bitty Book Light' is a neat idea: a small plastic clip with a folding boom on it; at the end is a low amperage flashlight bulb with a little plastic hood over it. It runs off 4 C cells in a seperate battery pack, so the little clip that clips onto the book is connected to a wire from the battery pack. The only drawback is that the 4 C cell pack is rather heavy, for travelling. Hence my idea that a copycat product using a white LED would be a good idea...

What about this one?

That's a COFFEE TABLE book, not a small novel. Just for perspective. The articulating arm and the lamp shade around the bulb can be moved to put the light anywhere you need.

An Expediton 300 flashlight thrown in for size comparision.

Unit is self-contained, and runs off 4 "AA" batteries. The bulb is a small screw base, presumably with the same base size some of the Petzl lights use. (I don't own a screw base flashlight, so I don't have any means to compare). It also has a 1/8" phone jack on the side for an AC adapter. And yes, it clips directly to just about any book.

The labelling on the front says "Gold Crest" and on the back, "Gold Crest Inc., Santa Barbara CA. 93111"

Perhaps this thing can be modified as easily as screwing in a screw-base LED bulb and using a dummy/resistor battery?

Re: LED version of \'Itty Bitty Book Light\'?

Would anyone know of a good place online to order the Energizer Folding LED Lantern?

None of the Wally-worlds nearby seem to carry it in stock

Here in Iowa, the local Sam's Club has an LED book light on a swivel arm for $12.00 (don't quote me, give or take a dollar or two).

I think it runs on 4AA, but I really didn't even stop and look at it. Might be what your looking for.
