I've experienced some of the worst(drilling out batterys)to haveing them last a long time with no problems, but whats the top on your list when it comes to batterys and applications...state a few for me,such as "I'm going with a e2 for my L1P...is that a good choice?Thank you.

As far as I can decipher from that, you're asking what kind of cell you should use in your L1P, right?

If you are, then the e2 L91 lithiums are probably the best, followed by NiMH and then alk.

My own personal oppinion is to go with sanyo eneloop. Why? It can handle *very* high drain just like e2 L91 lithiums, the initial cost is about the same (maybe a tiny bit higher), very low self discharge.. and ofcourse guilt free lumens.

Win win situation?

Agree, eneloops seem safe, robust and a good value.

After a reading a few threads about exploding lithium primaries my "earthquake batteries" (2x12-packs of e2 energizer lithiums) have been put into a .50 cal ammo can out in the barn on top of some ceramic tiles with the last of my stocks of alkaline batteries.

I've pretty well stopped using alkaline altogether too after having some D-cells leak in my 3D Mag led drop-in.

We've got AA eneloops here at circuit city and walmart. I haven't seen any AAA eneloops yet though. I plan on replacing my D-cells with 3xAA carriers in order to use eneloops in my 3D Mag.

The advantage I find with e2 lithiums (L91) is it's weight. Probably not an issue with most unless you cave or hike at night and need to carry a few batteries, sometimes on your head, then you will appreciate the reduced weight of L91's compared to NiMH and alkalines. Also, runtime graphs say it runs longer than NiMH:

I uh mis-posted. The eneloops are not available at the local walmart here.

I picked some up at circuit city. They were labeled at $9.99 for a 4-pack (AA) but the girl at the counter tried first to charge me 19.99, then 14.99 and finally 9.99 when I asked her to get the manager.

Yep, I made a fuss over 4 bucks. :D The crazy thing is they have a rack full of 8-packs for 19.99 but don't bother trying logic on them.
