Here's another cheap pocket light.. This one is available at Longs' among other places. The price was 11.99. The reason I bought it was because the aspherical lens looked pretty good.

This light has a post protruding from the rear to which a split ring is passed. This prevents tail standing, but could be filed down. Who's going to tailstand this light?

Opening this flashlight is easy. The tail unscrews to replace the battery. The head unscrews to access the led. To activate the light, one tightens the head/lens section until the pieces make good contact. The tailcap does not act as a switch unless you count opening it and taking the battery out.

The beam of this light is comparable to the original inova x1. It is a spot light that creates a 'moon' when shined at the wall. The x1 is much brighter.

However, a brighter light is not always better. If you're looking for a small focused light for being stealthy or unobtrusive, this light might be the one to get.

Of course the first thing I did was paint some glow inside the plastic reflector.

This light is good for what it does. Its dim output and cheap chinese construction might turn away some. Others might find a use for it.

I have that exact light and think it's pretty good.

I edc'ed it for a short while before i started getting the fenixes, litefluxes, and Jetbeams going.

I even modded it with an SMJ led. Not sure it was worth the $5, but wth.

I did need to frost the end of the LED tho, otherwise the optic magnifies the 4 dies wires (ugly). Now it gives a nice smooth, more white flood.

:twothumbs

Quick and to the point! Thanks for your review, Greenlight. Is there any spill outside of the moon?

I don't have an X1, but on my River Rock 1AA Nichia Jupiter light with this type of focus lens there is a white moon with a thin, blue outer edge as well as a dim (but wide) spill ring outside along with various 'spilled' artifacts even further out.

New?

Rite Aid has been selling that model for awhile now. First saw those over a year ago.

It's bigger than a Dorcy 1AAA model. (Which some folks feel is just a bit too big for key-chain carry already). Dimmer than the Dorcy model, and more expensive. When it comes to rotating the head to turn the Garrity on, it's either too stiff or too slick. I've owned 3 of those lights. Gave one away to a non-flashaholic. The last one turned itself on in my pocket. And, it flickered constantly. I tossed it in the trash. The one I have left seems to work okay, but also dim.

Oh I made sure to keep the lobster claw key-ring from each of them.... Put one on my Black Dorcy 1AAA model with the reflector. But even a Dorcy fish-eyed lens 1AAA is brighter than the Garrity. Sad to say, but the lobster claw key-ring might be the best part of the Garrity 1AAA model.

Buy the Dorcy instead. Less expensive (buy from Wal-Mart), smaller, and brighter. Oh yeah, each Garrity model I had; there seems to be something that looks like a broken wire inside the LED. The shadow of that wire was always visible in the light's beam. :thumbsdow

Yeah, it's not that great. First time I've seen it. It'll probably go to a non flashaholic, too.
