I was inspired by Orcinus's LF5XT charts. I think a bit differently so I created this chart in hopes to have some help reviewing / validating it by fellow CPFers. Have as look and PM me with changes/corrections/additions and I will maintain it.

** UPDATED to Ver 2.1 **

Changes
- Fair amount of changes to CUI chart
- Very minor text change to FUI chart

Hi-res image links thanks to Bluecrow76...
v2.1 Legal Size PDF
v2.1 Letter Size PDF

Low-res Image Shack Images...

Click on image for larger version. Then right click (Save target As) to save it to your PC. You should then be able to zoom in and or print it.

Thanks for the help in advance,

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.0

Excellent job, Budman123 !
Very clear and useful guide to programming.
The only thing you might want to consider is making the original image larger, as it is very fuzzy and hard to read when enlarged.

Again, GOOD JOB. Thanks.

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.0

Great idea Budman231

Chart was fuzzy and too small for me too read. I'm not an expert on this Teletype machine so I can't offer any help there.

Thank you for taking the time, Mr. B. I've got it saved and will check it out closely later today. Folks should not think this light is overly complex. Your chart should help.

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.0

Thank you for making this chart. Right away it clears up some questions I had about programing.

Since I am still learning the light, take this with a grain of salt, but shouldn't there be lines coming from each FUI mode box 1-5, going to the right? Also, there are lots of boxes in your chart where you don't show lines back, in other words, how to return to where you were.

Edit: OK, not that many boxes, most without returns are brightness up or down and battery check. But how about the strobe and beacon boxes?

After you do 3c+PH, in any sub menu you either do 3c (to cancel change) or
3C+PH (to save). This always brings u back to the mode being programmed.

Ill try to make the more clear on V1.1.

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.0

Actually, I think it all depends on the type of person you are whether charts simplify directions for you or not. If you are a graphically oriented person, they will definitely help. If you are a text oriented person, since these charts condense a 24 page instruction manual into only 2 pages, it might be a bit overwhelming at a first glance. In other words, a text oriented type of person who had no familiarity with this light at all might take one look at these charts, and say, "Forget it! This light is way to complex for me. I am sending it back!" That same person might find it less overwhelming by understanding one piece of the directions before moving on to another piece.

You might compare these flow charts to maps. Some people prefer to follow an arrow on a map. Others prefer to have each step of the route and each turn listed out for them. For me, since I already understand the programming of the light, these flow charts are a nice review and overview. I like having a map to see where I have been and where I am going. I also like to have the steps along the way spelled out for me. In that way, I am less likely to get lost.

Having said all this, I don't mean to deminsh Budman's work making these great flow charts. They obviously took a lot of thought and time. I do agree that it would be nice for those who need them, if they could somehow be made larger for printing purposes.

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.0

Great job, but as it would be far better to post in its original format, so as it can be printed out clearly or modified as each user finds necessary. :twothumbs
Thanks Norm

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.0

I made it in MS Visio. Most folks probably wont have that s/w.

While not good for everyone, this format makes it look less complicated IMO. I agree with u Babydoc.

I'm Working on a more visible version.

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.0

Very Nice!

Yes, it need to be a bit clearer at full size.

On quick inspection it looks like the flow is not right after the Enter-Mode-Setting. Several things look wrong, but the first big issue seems to be that log-Brightness increase/decrease is simply 1C/2C. There must also be something I don't understand about the flow diagram because it just seems incorrect at this critical point. Where is Function-Setting, maybe the text is too fuzzy for me to read exactly, but looks wrong, and missing stuff.

This will be a great aid once it's cleaned up.

Great work, Budman! :D
Would've jumped in and done one myself, but i don't have an LF3XT and i was in a bit of a bind lately anyway.

Good catch on the 1C/2C for Brightness.

Function Setting is the PH from Enter Mode Setting. It's labeled Toggle Constant->strobe->Beacon->SOS-Constant.

I will put "Funtion Setting" at the top for clarity.

Thanks SB

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.0

Awesome chart! Really helps considering it took me a while to decipher the manual. The only problem, like some above have said, is that I can't read the smaller text.

In looking at the diagram and thinking about your questions, I think return lines would make it to busy. I have made some changes to v 1.1 that may make "going back" a little more clear. Let me know what you think of v 1.1.

I also took your suggestion of modes 1-5 and put in "All Modes" so it is clear.

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.0

Thanks Budman231 - I really like the flowchart idea. I tried to OCR it in hopes to save it into a .PDF and make it clearer but no luck - it came out worse. I thought I might save you some trouble but I think if you can just save it at a higher resolution or some other format it would be more readable. I can convert almost any file type to just about anything else so let me know if I can help on this.

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.0

Ok I uploaded the next version (1.1)

Please let me know if this is more readable...

I also made the changes suggested.

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.1 * UPDATED *

Prints out quite well A4 landscape but some of the darker shading comes out a bit hard to read on a B/W laser printer.

Re: LF3XT Programming Flowchart - V1.1 * UPDATED *

Nice and sharp, going to be really helpful when learning the FUI. Thanks for making it, Budman.
