Well I now own a Green Laser, it's bright and fun can be had, that's for sure.

What should I buy next for some real fun????

Ideas????

If you want to "light up the night" with a quality flashlight, I`d suggest the Surefire M6.

(BTW, I totally agree with you... the green lasers are great fun. They`re a "must have" light. And IMHO, the M6 is in the very same category.)

Nichia now has blue lasers available however the cost is very high. I got to opportunity to play with one and they are very nice.

Lucky you!!
Did you go to one of their offices and ask for a demo of one? At $3,000 a pop (just for the bare diode), I doubt they would just ship out demos willy nilly unless you ponied up the 3 grand first.

By now, you should be able to buy a violet laser diode for aobut half that price. Still spendy though, especially if you blow it up the moment you take it out of the bag.

Closest I've come to seeing one is seeing a closeup photo of the plastic box it comes in.

JRock10 = was that Blue laser in the form of a laser pen?

Hey Supertrucker, Z-Bolt has the best prices on the web and dependable products. I bought a BTS-6 for $191.50 including UPS 2nd Day Air and it works great -- bright as all get out!

Telphony, I bought Energizer metal hydride ACCU Rechargable AAA 1.2v and 700 mah and the damn things, fully charged, won't illuminate my 5mw laser pen! Nothing at all! Wonder what's the deal?

Thanks,
James

007 & Telophony,

Working at Nichia has its perks. We have a few sample of them. They are packaged as laser pointers and appear really neat. If anyone would be interested in pictures of the LED lit up let me know.

I don't know why yours doesn't work on nimh.
Mine works fine on them, and they're the 600mah radio shack type. The only thing I can think of is you put one or both of the cells in the laser body backwards, or one of the batteries is bad or uncharged. :-o

I'd love to see pictures of one. It would be far better than looking at a picture of a small plastic box that probably didn't even have a LD inside.

Peter,

I just found out that Jrock10 is not the phosphor sales rep. His name is Jim, and he is another LED sales rep here at Nichia. Hes still working on posting the pictures of our blue laser diode.
I'm hoping to use one during an upcoming presentation.

Later,
Matt

Awesome, could he post a side by side beam picture with a conventional laser pointer for comparison? I am sure there are a lot of people on this board that are excited about this product.

Peter

Oh sure, we're all drooling for photo's and they get to use it to point at boring stuff during a presentation.

Talk about perks!

Telephony, I'm going to take the nimh's back to Wallyworld and exchange for other brand. I'll let you know.

PS - RE: Blue Laser, is human eyesight more or less sensitive to this spectrum range (blue) vs Green Laser spectrum????

James

Mmmm, blue laser...I want, I want..

Better go and play with my green one so the urge wears off and I don't do anything silly with my credit card...

Telephony, I went back to Wallyworld exchanged 1.2v nimh Energizers for 1.5v Rayovac Rechargeables, they work fine in the Green Laser.

Not sure how long they'll last (never bought "alkaline rechargeables before...).

Now, outdoors I must go - what can I "laze" tonight????

This wouldn't happen to be my sales rep at Nichia would it? He said he lurked on the CPF.

OK, I just called him, he says its not him and your probally the "phosphor guy" he works with. Welcome to the CPF!

Yes, pictures would be nice. When the price comes down to where we can use it in a regular product, I would definately like to evaluate it.

Just to let everyone know I'm not too technically advanced when it comes to using digital cameras. We tried yesterday to take some picture of the Blue laser illuminated on a wall however the digital camera we have can not seem to pic it up. Any input on why this is happening and what can be done to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated. We going to try later this afternoon with one of a lab people to create some sort of smoke and get a picture of the beam through the smoke.

Any input on how pictures can be taken of this would be greatly appreciated.

I'll check tomorrow when I get to work but I located the manufacturer of the BTS-8 in China and you can get them for 169.00 each plus shipping. About 189.00 total. Best price I've seen.
In case I forget and anybody needs this info please email me at [email protected]

007 - Keep check on those rechargable alkaline cells, they have a habit of leaking.

JRock10 - remote chance that your camera cannot 'see' that color of blue, but more likely you just need to lower ambient light to allow the camera to pick up the laser. Especially when using smoke; dark room, long exposure time, try 1 sec or more.
