For anyone who may be interested, I finally got my Seca 700 and put up some info in a thread at MTBR. If you just want to browse the photos, they're in this PhotoBucket gallery. The animated GIF showing the Seca with/without a DBS V2 Q5 1S OP is kinda fun :) (800kb, give it time to get loaded)

If there's anything you'd like to see answered, fire away :candle:

Wow, that is a huge amount of light! So, the questions... You weighed the light at 147.8gr + 21gr for mount - have you tried it as a helmet-mounted light? I used to use a Fenix P3D / Dereelight CL1H v3 and I found my neck was sore after 2-3 hours of riding with either light. The 3xSSC P4 light I have now is about 70gr so the Seca is almost double... just curious to hear your thoughts. Also, there's a great pic that you posted of the handle-bar mount; the red mount looks pretty sturdy - is it aluminum?

I was initially quite skeptical of the Seca design but I have to admit that, after seeing your pics, I'm pretty impressed. It would make a great handle-bar mounted light but my only concern is the weight for any helmet-mount.

Thanks for posting the pics.

RGB_LED I've tried 138gr Raven (3xR2 on 35mm optics)- you can forget about using Seca a helmet light. For me Raven was definitely too heavy for a longer night ride.

I haven't tried it as a helmet-mounted light yet, but the weight definitely wouldn't be a problem for me. I've used much heavier helmet lights without neck strain (NiteRider's HIDs and dual-beam halogens are pretty hefty), so I'm good there. Also, remember that the whole weight of the cord wouldn't be on the helmet per se. So I guess the weight will come down to a matter of the individual's preference & tolerance.

In fact, I just got back from a late-night ~2-hour ride with my Dereelight DBS stuck to my helmet with a BikeBlock, which must be well beyond 300 grams. My neck is fine :grin2: but man, I'm starving now! :p Pic from tonight's excursion:

Seca 700 + Olight M20 Warrior Premium R2 OP + DBS V2 Q5 1S OP. With the DBS on my helmet, that big reflective road sign was discernable from 1.3 miles away :duck:

Yes, it's part of the heat sink for the LEDs. Light & Motion's lights have a "breakaway disc" that'll snap to prevent major damage to the other parts of the light. They send a couple spares in the package.

Thanks for posting the pics.

Sure thing! :) I would've done compare-&-contrast photos & video with my DiNotte 600L too, but I lent it to a buddy.

I currently use a L&M "Arc"; how would you say this light compares to a 10W HID?

You'll find ARC and Seca 700 beamshots in this review, which is in Norwegian (I think): http://terrengsykkel.no/index.php?id=2440 If those photos are accurate, then the Seca clearly throws further and appears much brighter. Are you looking for an off-road light, or a road-riding light?

While I'm at it, let me mention that I lent out the Seca 700 to a buddy. He found that the light can slip on its helmet mount, so people considering the Seca for helmet use in rough conditions should be aware of that. I'm going to try mounting the light directly to the center rib of my helmet itself, so if anyone's curious to hear the results, just holler :)

Thanks! I do road riding and I'm looking to see "what's next" once my Arc needs replacement. Or maybe sooner :)

hey mechbgon did you ever find out if plugging a 6cell pack into the seca 400 will turn it into a 700?
