This is a sculpture I'm building. The glass sphere is hollow, and about 9 inches in diameter and mostly opaque. I am looking for the brightest, least amount of heat solution that comes in less than 1" diameter to illuminate this thing from the inside. The bulb needs to be less than 1" because of the hole that is required for the blowing of the glass. Any ideas?

Oh, forgot. It needs to illuminate in all directions, so that the the glow from the red sphere casts shadows onto the wall behind it as well as outward. Thanks!

Hey EvilJordan,

I ran into a bulb for you today at Home Depot. It's made by GE. They're long halogens that are less than 1" in diameter, with a small screw base. They range from 75 to 250 watts. They're around $16.

You can get it online here.

Well, go to homedepot.com, then bulbs, then halogen/quartz. It's the last one on the list. I think 75 watts would be plenty.
