Usually very little difference, mostly in name. If the dominant wavelength is 395nm, it's called "UV". If it's 405nm, it's "purple". But both will put out visible violet light and the invisible UV light since their output is spread over some waelength range (a bell curve where the top of the curve is the dominant wavelength).

I hope that made sense. Basically only things like lasers or low pressure sodium lamps put out just a single wavelength of light. LEDs put out a slight range of wavelengths.
