I know Fenix L1D or P2D with a LiIon cell lose low modes.

I was goofing off and put a 10440 in my LOD Q4. All modes get brighter, but they are all there. I did not think this was possible.

Also I have a Peak AAA Luxeon and tried 10440 in that. It got brighter too.

I KNOW it would not be wise to run these lights like this. But has anyone else done so for any amount of time and can report?

Oh, the LOD Q4 retains it's PWM flicker in the med and low modes even with the increased voltage!

A lot of people here have run 10440's thru various lights for quite some time with pretty good success for the most part - not many reports of bad things happening, but quite a few posts regarding the potential for trouble. 4 Sevens definitely recommends against such use as do a number of others. My experience with the LOD Q4 mirrors yours, and this after many, many recharge cycles. Same with the LD01. However, heat did seem to become an increasing problem in these lights so I went back to E2's.

10440's from AW in Peaks with Rebel 0100's and P4's have given me no trouble whatsoever and I run nothing else in them. Performance in an Eiger with a 3.7v cell, either 10440, 10280 or 10180, really is amazing. 100 lumens or more out lights keychain size and smaller! But these unprotected LiIon batteries do require careful use and charging - they are not for novices.

There are new posts just this week regarding protected 10440's, but I've no experience with them yet. The dimensions of this new cell are apparently such that they may not fit in some lights.

I've been running the 10440 in LOD's since before it was a Cree. The first was in a LuxIII I believe, still have that light btw and it still works perfectly. I still have my first CE, Q2 and Q4 LOD's all of which also work perfectly. These day's I've migrated over to the Maratac AAA as I prefer its design a bit more. Now I'm pounding them to death, which is actually to say I'm placing a lot of beyond spec load on the cell itself. Despite this, I still own the first 4 10440 cells that I ever purchased. Although the capacity has been reduced on a couple, I still use them daily. If it takes a sudden dive in performance or voltage I will discard it but at this time they still reliably charge to 4.2V via the Nano. I'm very impressed which how these cells have stood the test of time and hard use. It sort of defies explanation.

Note: No one else should try this unless they've studied li-on battery chemistry and understand the meaning of "unprotected" cell. Users should also own a DIMM and use it regularly with these cells, both pre charge and post charge.

I'm not against running it on a 10440.

I just know that a few others have mentioned trouble using UF and I felt my light start to warm up meaning the battery was starting to get hot.

I will get at least 2 AW 10440 and a dedicated charger and try again.

I carry a P2D and a P10C2. It's not as if I NEED my LOD that bright.
