What are all the possible ones? I've heard of people using a and s pila cells and some using some 1xxxx. What are the advantages and disadvantages of them?

Pila's have good runtime and are protected against overcharge and overdischarge, Downside is they're expensive. The 1XXXX's are basically the same as the pila's but without the protection so you need a smart charger that will stop at the correct voltage and you need to keep an eye on the LH output so you dont overdischarge the cell. You can also use a Li-Ion R123 (a spacer will be needed) with protection or without but runtime will suffer greatly

Given the quality i'd stick with Pila cells.

Thanks but I heard that the 1xxxx gives a large boost in runtime?

Could I run two protected R123 without the spring?

You got that right, Ragzz. And on the issue of running an unprotected cell, as long as the smart charger does its job of Not overcharging, the LH will do its job of Not overDischarging (cuts off at about ~2.8V). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif
