Lithium and alkaline, interchangeable?

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and in no way as knowledgeable as you all are so please bear with me. I'm wondering whether AA batteries in all LED lights can be used with EITHER alkaline or lithium batteries? My immediate purpose is in looking for a flashlight for the glovebox in my car. Thanks for any replies.

it depends on the light. lithiums run at a higher voltage then alkalines. a good backup light for the car would be the x5. it uses the 123 lithiums which you could get cheaper than the lithium aa
