I am wondering if initial brightness will be increased by running a lithium cell over a alkaline cell? More specifically if I took a Inova X1 and put a brand new alkaline cell in it and a brand new lithium cell in it would the light output be the same or would the light output be higher with the lithium cell? I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me on this question.

I'm guessing you mean an Energizer L91 cell.

From Quickbeam's review of the X1, it looks like that's a simple DC-DC boost circuit, with steadily diminishing output. Based on that, I would say that using an L91 would give you slightly higher starting output. I don't know whether or not it would be a noticable increase, though.
