I have a friend who is considering a Surefire. He is not a flashaholic, although I may point him to CPF. He is considering the G2 which is more than enough for his applications with the stock bulb.

I have an idea for a safety demonstration using two (or more) fresh Alkaline AA's and one dead Heavy duty carbon zinc AAA cell powering a short circuit or a heavy load. The purpose of the demonstration is to make the Heavy duty cell :poof: as dramatically as possible. I don't want to use lithiums due to expense and we live in a dorm at a school and don't want any fires.

I would also like your input on safety tips as I'm a mag guy not a Surefire guy.

My goal is to help him not have a lithium poof. It should be noted that we are considering Batterystation Cells.

Sounds shakey. But if you've read all the threads on battery safety here and still want to play, I'd go over to your engineering school and talk to a professor about what facilities they have that would enable you to play to your hearts' content.

I would do some pretty serious research on this and the chemicals you are likely to enconter. I do not have any direct knowledge myself but i know some of the chemicals found in batterys can be very dangerous to the human body. You should consider this as well as the explosion risk.

Heavy duty cells leak, they don't blow up... at least in my experience.
You might, possibly, get one to vent explosively by shocking it with a very high current, but really, what's the point?
Just let him see a few videos of lithiums on fire and he should be ready to treat them with respect.

Just show him some of the pictures available here of the aftermath and what it does to the light and the batteries!
They had me convinced!
Also there are some videos on the website of a company that made "safe" lithiums for military. They show what happens to normal batteries when punctured etc, now that was DRAMATIC! Of course I have forgottem the name of the company, but Im sure someone here will remember!

Valence.

1. Don't blow anything up.

2. Use name brand 123's, and you won't have an issue.

1. Okay, I will heed your advice, I probably would underestimate the power of the explosion anyway.

2. He works minimum wage ($7 in this state) and he is willing to join CPF and I hope that he does it for more than a Batterystation discount (it would be more fair to the CPF community and Batterystation that way.)

I have already showed him the video of the idiots blowing up a LiPo pack intentionally as well as some of the results of lithium explosions on CPF.

Again this is my very first Surefire convert (I'm not even one myself) and I want my friend to do this as safely as possible.
