This is my first time attempting any light meter readings, and who knows, I might have gotten it all wrong, but I'm pretty sure the proportions should all be right, even if the raw numbers themselves are wrong.

Playing with the Photon King 1, E1e+McLux+3W Luxeon, Tec 40+EverLED, InReTech Mag AA, Brinkman Long Life, Dorcy Cool Blue, and a Mag 4D, I got the following results using the LM631 light meter at exactly 1 metre from the reflector to the sensor, on the X10 range setting.

If anyone has any readings to compare, please fill me in, let me know if these are even close! I won't get another chance to retake the readings, but it'd be fun to see how close I was.

E1e: 249
Tec40 EverLED: 48
4D Mag EverLED: 225
4D Mag Incan: 654
Dorcy Cool Blue: 14
Brinkman Long Life: 10
InReTec Mag: 9

And what you're waiting for..

Photon King 1: 1374!

My InReTech was a LOT lower than I expected, but it is rather more a flood than some of the other lights. It's disapointing to see the Dorcy Cool Blue and even Brinkman LL beat it, but it's definately more light than those two are in reality. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hello Khaytsus,

You luck dog you... Getting a chance to play with the PK-1. I am very jealous.

If you look at Doug's (Quickbeam) Total Output vs Throw chart, you will find a number for the Throw. Square that number to find his lux readings at 1 meter.

If you check Craig's site (LED Museum), he lists his values in milicandela. Divide his values by 1000 to get a comparison with your readings.

Nice job Khaytsus, you lucky bastid. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have been thinking of getting a light meter soon.
How do you like that one?
It seems to be the one everyone uses.
But I dont like how it only goes up tp 20,000 lux, I have seen cheaper ones go higher.

Also, I saw it have an analog output, how easily can this be connected to a computer to give graphs?
What all would I need?

The light meter is actually Kaksters, and has been packaged up and is ready to ship to him with the PK1, so I can't experiment with it any more.

I'm not sure how you take readings from it except for reading the display, perhaps you can hook something up to it that I did not notice.

I'll have to do the calculations, see if my numbers were anywhere close to "known" ones. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
