Sad I missed it. We didn't get away hiking this week, instead spending the time gardening and clearing out the loft / doing DIY, and I seriously overdid it on Thursday afternoon pulling some muscles in my back and left hand side.

Am still feeling very sore, so I couldn't face walking on the common last night 🙁

Dinner at the Fox and Grapes.

Hey Solscud007 how was the fish and chips!! The food looks great, glad it went well guys and girls. Thanks for the pics.

Nice set of photos Monkeyboy

Hoped you might get some snaps of the Wombles with a couple of Surefires

Gutted that I missed out ... oh well maybe next time 😉

Soon-to-be Mrs Solscud looks none too impressed with the Fish and Chips :grin2:

haha quite the opposite. She really enjoyed it. I think she was dreading the night to come. But as I said, Nyctophiliac really made her feel welcome and she enjoyed the night immensely. The food was FANTASTIC, quick and well presented.

Foiled again 🙁

Hope you all had a good time, and I hope you had/are having a good time in England, Solscud 🙂

Here are a few more piccies and a brief description of what went down that fateful night in ol' Wimbledon Town......

Monkeyboy arrived first followed closely by Megganoggin and me ( actually I had arrived at five and was quoffing Citron Presse in the village!) We started off pulling out the torches in the only shade around - by a tree. Then Brunt SP cycled along and added to the pile.

We soon got a call from Solscud007 and he climbed the hill to us with more torches than I have ever seen one person to carry with them at any one time. Very impressed.

Meganoggin and he hit it off right away.

The lights on the bench spell it out.

Solscud's enviable case of many torches.

The pointiest meets the tiniest aspheric.

Eventually the sun started to set and we set off to the pub.

Then fun in a pub with Night vision goggles and an I.R thrower!

Then back to the common to frighten the rabbits. Lisa and Solscud loved the Brompton demo.

And filmed it - those aren't just sunglasses - they have a hidden mp4 recorder - I want!!!!

Monkeyboy reaping the rewards of another well organised meet.

Then we did the beamshots and the obligatory night writing - actually quite clean this time!

Fantastic meet, well done monkeyboy for organising and wonderful to welcome Solscud007 and his fiance to our local ways.

Hey, these things are fun.

As for the Wombles, we could hear them singing near where we did our beamshots, but we didn't want to disturb them - besides, if they really do pick up the rubbish they find, they might have had an interest in quite a few of my torches!!!

Oh yeah i got so caught up in talking flashlights with you guys I forgot to mention this.

When I was in Sheffield, I was watching some of the Raoul Moat news broadcasts. They had a shot of a sniper lying in wait and scanning the area with binoculars. the sniper was wearing a Surefire hat!!!! I could see the SF logo on the back of the hat.

Met Police Sniper in SureFire cap
"A police sniper is seen the area surrounding the village of Rothbury, England on Wednesday, where police are searching for fugitive gunman Raoul Moat.... (AP Photo/Owen Humphreys-pa)"

specialist police snipers and another photo.

I wonder whether the [her] SureFire cap came from the same source that Princes William and Harry got theirs from?

There may well be some connection with the Met Police's Special Operations Command Royalty Protection branch (SO14).

Good point, Size 15's - I'd like a Surefire hat without the weapons training though. Solscud007 had a fantastic Surefire T-shirt at the meet - for an easily spotted Flashaholic!

BTW, Size - when are we going to see you at a UK Meet up? Kettering isn't that far away?

that is not the shot I saw. It was a zoomed in shot of the sniper. I thought it was a woman too, and it looked like the cameraman was peeking thru some tall grass.

Anyway you could see the back of the cap. Hence the "SF" logo.

Also is it just me or do the UK hats look lighter in color?

lighter than what?
I've got several of the same caps as worn by both our sniper and our princes.
I also have a different style one that is tan rather than green. In fact I have quite a few of different styles and colours...
I do know that after time in the sun and being sweated and rained they do fade a bit.

Sorry I should have clarified. Take a close look at my hat. it is a darker Olive drab green color compared to the sniper hat or William's hat. William's and the sniper look like a tan rather than a green.

Ah. okay.
I've one of those too. It's an olive drab version compared to the lighter-green, perhaps distressed-look version modelled by the sniper and the princes.
I've dug out my cap collection. The tan version is more like khaki. I also have two black versions, one of which is a SureFire Institute cap.

That Stanley HID looks amazing in the Flickr pics. The meets look great - some really cool looking lights. Especially that handgun looking jobby!

Yeah the Stanley HID was quite impressive with its throw. Smaller and lighter than the regular Costco HID too. I can't remember what the gun handle thing was called but it's a surefire with the Lumens factory P7 head attached.

The food at the pub was as good as it looks and reasonably priced. In fact if I knew the other CPF guys better, I would have stolen their food while they ate :naughty:
