For those of you who have longbows, which do you prefer, the twisty or the clicky tailcap? I am leaning towards the clicky, but want some opinions from some of the longbow owners out there. Anyone tried both? What do you think? Any potential issues with the reliablity of the clicky?

I've tried and have both for my Micra. Although I prefer the clickie I would never give up my twisty although I barely use it. With the twisty it makes the light shorter and I think it looks better too.

As for reliability issues, it will have the same reliability/unreliability as a kroll since it is a kroll. I sometimes hear how krolls have not been treating people good but every single one of my krolls have been very reliable to me, even on my McLux that has been my EDC for just over a year now and still going.

I have the clicky for my mini and I like it. I like clicky to twisty for everyday use, I find the clicky easier to activate.

I have only the clicky one, and it's nice /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I find it simply a little bit hard, can be because it is new /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Ahhhhh.... but you can unscrew the tailcap, push the guts out, and you'll see that the Kroll is screwed into a (brass?) sleeve. You can back the Kroll out of the sleeve a little, put it all back together and it will activate a lot easier. They thought of everything-I love this light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

If the light stays on no matter what you do, you backed the switch out of the sleeve too far. You might have to mess with it for awhile but it's a *really* cool feature.

You've got it, it's a rich idea /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif No problem at all, my switch work smoother /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif

Many thanks, another good reply for another CPF member

Thanks for the replies!! I think I will be ordering the micra with the clicky. Although....I could always order the micra clicky and get a twisty with it.......or better yet order one micra with the clicky and one with the twisty ........or a micra with the clicky and a mini with the twisty.........or.......... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif
Anyway, from what I have read, it sounds like I will be getting a great light for the price. Thanks again!!!!!!

I have a Micra and both the clicky and twisty... I like them both.. the twisty has two holes that can be used to mount to a tripod. It's small in size too. The clicky is nice and I like using that better with the AA tube...
I agree a class act all the way. Well thought out with all of the interchangable parts. Just popped in a glass lens and looks even better!

We're just finishing up the evaluation of the Micra today. Thus far the Clickie looks like a winner.
Pluses
1) Faster deployment - especially with one hand
2) May be used as a twistie in addition to functioning as a clickie ( 2 for the price of 1)
3) Momentary On & Full click On pressure adjustable without special skill or tools
4) candle/ceiling mode friendly click switch tail-cap
5) Two attachment points ( versus one of competing flashlights)
6) Kroll mechanism is easily & cheaply replaced
Minuses
1) Reputed to be less reliable than Twist mechanism switch
2) Reputed to deliver slightly less power than Twist mechanism switch
3) Adds some over-all length to the flashlight
4) Lacks attachment point where click-button is otherwise located, preventing out of the box direct downward attachment to lanyard/tent
Conclusion. Each switch has it's ideal contexts of use. If out of the box direct downward attachment to lanyard/tent is the main attachment preference then the Twist On/Off tail cap is ideal. Otherwise, most applications are pefectly served by the Click On/Off Tail cap.
An excellent approach to user and task specified performance engineering. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I got the Micra with both the Twisty and Clicky tailcaps. I prefer the Twisty because it's smaller and I know it's always going to work, every single time. Plus, since it uses a spring, there's no danger of crushing the battery or damaging the board, a possibility in certain other lights.

I've also had crap luck with the Kroll in my Arc LSL, and I'm always fiddling with it to get to stop flickering. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I got the Clicky anyway just to have the option if I so choose...but it adds significant length to the Micra.

I got the twisty because I think having a longer and heavier light (Clicky) would nag at me. I always like being efficient.

After you adjust the clicky switch for a lighter push, as richpalm has so eloquently recommended, you can use the light as a twisty........
Making sure that the tailcap is screwed all the way in, press the button to turn the light on. If you want to turn it off, don't press the button again....just back off the tailcap! If you want to resume clicky "operation", screw the tailcap all the way in and use the button for on/off. Here is your "combination twisty/clicky light!" Two lights in one, yes?

For those of us who cannot live with the extra 1/2" length, due to the use of the clicky mechanism, I cannot help you.

The clicky is a "more practical" configuration for this light.

RE: Relative Functionality & Usability of Clickie VS Twistie - We concur with luxlover . The Twist Tail Cap 'outfitted' Micra is not a bantam sized Firefly or CR2 light anyway. Besides, using certain 'mount options' such as head-band mounted (our personal favorite) the length of the Clickie outfitted Micra is ideal and the other option too short. In addition, fire arms mounted usability is severely diminished with the Twistie option. Some day some manufacturer will design a 'torque assisted' Twistie that will fast-slip into On/Off and with a firmer 1/4 turn- 'lock-off'. but it wouldn't likely replace an advanced 'biometrically aware' future Clickie anyway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/poke2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm prefer clicky to twist, primarily because of the momentary-on capabiltiies (tactical on?).

I do find that the Longbow twisty, with its knurling and size (when well lubed) permits easy one-handed operation also (but not so tactical).

I'm a landlubber, but divers on the other hand seem to prefer the watertightness of the twisty much more.

Is it really a half an inch difference?

I just ordered one with a clickie before I read this thread, and the specs showed the same length /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Actually, the difference is less than half an inch. Read this post.
