Longbow Micra review - FlashlightReviews.com

I love the looks and feel of the LB Micra, however the electronics are about the worse I've seen. It really doesn't take advantage of much of the cell's power, has limited runtime and is not all the bright. It should be noted that I'm referring the Micras I owned over a year ago.

This review is going to be very useful in the future.

My micra is as old as the ones you owned. However some days ago I finally dared to stick an unprotected li-ion cr123 in it. It had a nice output for quite some time and then suddenly went dim. I constantly measured the voltage without load and found out it was exactly at 2.5V when it dimmed. Maybe the micra was designed with unprotected li-ions in mind? But as you said, the performance with non-rechargeables is disapointing.

Ditto. Excellent exterior fit and finish, feels great, but shaky electronics. My Micras are also close to a year old (maybe the previous edition)? Perhaps the new ones have improved though?

There always where micras with good runtimes that could start from low voltages. Perhaps the electronics work better with lower vf-bins and ours have high vf-bins? When measuring current draw on the tail end I saw a high number when using a regular cr123 and a very low number when using the li-ion. With my limited knowledge this sounds like a high vf-bin is used in my light...
It's quite possible that longbow simply got better bins lately.

Along the lines of the Micra vs Q3 threads, I just did a runtime of the Q3 - Here are the results side by side. Note the use of identical time scales (2hr 30 min total). Throw and overall ouptut for these two lights starts out almost the same.

Quickbeam: does that mean the micra has better efficiency of led/electronics since both are using 1CR123 and same overall output-n-throw

Excellent review. I thought LB's were nice and it's nice to see that I'm not alone.

I've, like many others, always considered the Micra to be a better buy than the QIII. The warranteed module, (no hassle), that was returned to me in one week, is a REAL performer.

Based on the runtime graphs, it looks that way to me!

Isn't the Q3 supplying more current to the LUXIII? I like the Micra package, but prefer that it'd be reflectored

You can purchase a reflector and pop it in. I tried this myself, and found I prefer the optic.

Excellent review and graphs QB!
