I'm hoping for something reliable with good runtime.... Oh and hopefully not too expensive.

Not a whole lot in the reliable twisty market right now... not for AAs at least. Virtually all quality AA lights are multimode so they can run with decent runtime now.
I believe the Nightcore D10 can function as a twisty if you so desire it to.

Inova X1 has worked well for me. I know some have had issues but I have about half a dozen old and new mixed, and never had an issue with one. And one of the nice things is you can replace them easily at Targets if you have one near if you have an issue.

I also have had good luck with SMJLED modded minimags. GREAT runtime with them too.

The Inova X1 would fit the bill, but I think they ruined it when they removed the 5mm LED and put a brighter LED that killed the runtime.

The Peak Kino Bay is an excellent AA twisty light.

Extremely reliable and handmade in the USA.

They cost $70 though, but they are worth it.

Oh yeah! I seem to forget about poor old peak these days... they never keep up the communications in the forum. :mecry: Peak lights are great though. Give them a call and they can definitely set you up with a simple twisty at a target lumen output or runtime.

Yup, I have a Stainless Steel Kino Bay with a P4, it puts out about ~45 lumens with a great runtime, all on a standard alkaline. Rechargeables work too.

They are a great company and I will be writing a review of the Kino Bay SS P4 and the McKinley SS 7 LED soon.

Peak Pacific 1aa HA pocket body is very nice and compact. Their circuit does prefer to be powered by a lithium cell. I'm not sure what the situation with the Kino Bay is. I vaguely remember that it had a worse circuit in the past but that they improved it since then.

Gerber firecracker, twisty/momentary push button tailswitch. 18 lumens 7 hours runtime. Efficient optic, more a thrower than flood. 20 bucks

Rayovac Sportsman Extreme 1W if you can still find them. They sold them at Walmart stores, but I'm not sure if they're still available. Same thing as the River Rock camo thing, and Nuwai markets it also. $20 at walmart, and nearly bullet proof. They use an old Luxeon, slightly bluish tint, but built like a tank and pretty good run time from a pair of AA's.

Thanks for all the recommendations so far... That Gerber Firecracker looks interesting. I'd really like something with a form fator similar to the Fenix P1D but using a single AA battery of course. Any others I might not be aware of...

Gerber Infinity Ultra upgraded to a Nichia DS or GS and ran on a L91 is darn close to 20 lumens.

Target has been known to carry the Inova X1v2 still. My local Target still even has a black one on the shelf.

Anyone know where I could find an X1 V.2?

Its pretty much hit or miss at the local B&Ms. I got lucky, my local Frys had a couple on the shelf. Search through the inventory, Look at the box, if it says "2.0 watts" its not the V2. I dont think its 20 Lumens, although its supper-flood nature makes it hard to evaluate visually.
